BTEC PERFORMING ARTS
Musical Theatre - PEER OBSERVATION
Instructions - Give this sheet to another member of the group. Ask them to fill in the
first two sections and you must fill in the response in the third section.
Name of observer: Cerys Cook
Name of performer being observed: Alfie Damps
Workshop/Rehearsal: Staging Dear Evan Hansen
The observer must make comments on each of the following:
1. Professional Attitude
Comments
Punctuality & Attendance Alfie is always punctual and ready to
work.
Readiness to Work Alfie is always prepared to work and is
always very optimistic when staging our
pieces, and open to many different
ideas
Communication with other company
members during the rehearsal
Alfie is always very open to
communication with everybody however
he does tend to stay very conserved
and focus on his own progress rather
than supporting others
Focus and attitude during the rehearsal Alfie is always very focused and has a
high work ethic. He always has a very
positive attitude towards working hard
and making progress.
Ability to take on board feedback from
other company members and use it to
improve own work
When Alfie is given feedback he is very
efficient in taking that into consideration
and working towards bettering himself.
However Alfie doesn’t often ask for
feedback therefore receives less than
BTEC PERFORMING ARTS
he could in order to better himself.
2. Conduct during rehearsals - Did this person behave in a positive and
focused way during rehearsals? Assess their contribution to the
success of the rehearsal. Please be as specific as possible
Alfie was ready to perform and in appropriate attire. He came prepared, with his lines
learnt and with various ideas of his own on how we could stage the piece and add
choreography. Throughout the rehearsals Alfie was working on trying to sing this
song in a higher octave than he normally would in order to suit his character that
much more. This was something he also worked on outside of rehearsal, in order to
allow us to spend more time on the staging and choreography as a group. Alfie
worked on being very over the top and confident in order to emphasise the humour
within this scene because as a group we aimed for this piece to have a ver
humorous effect on the audience. However Alfie’s energy levels did drop when he
was attempting to hit certain notes, as he was putting all of his focus into the singing
rather than the characterisation also. This is a factor Alfie needs to work on as in
order to be successful when performing this piece on the night, he needs both good
vocals and characterisation.
3. Performer response - will you make any changes to your working
practises following this observation? Be specific
