Early Beginnings
CCSU, originally the New
Britain Normal School, was
founded in 1849. Pictured
is Davidson Hall, the
school’s oldest building
which originally housed the
Normal School’s
Classrooms. Today it is
many administration
offices including the office
of the University’s
President.
Marcus White
Hall
Directly behind Davidson Hall is Marcus White
Hall. White Hall was originally a dormitory
during the time of the Normal School. Today
White, houses the school’s largest computer
lab as well as Health and Wellness Services
RECentral
Located two buildings behind Marcus White is the
RECentral Fitness Studio housed in Memorial Hall.
This is where CCSU offers free recreational classes
to its students here such as spinning, kickboxing,
yoga, and cycling just to name a few.
Ebenezer D.
Bassett
Pictured is Ebenezer D. Bassett,
the first African American
Graduate of CCSU in 1853.
Bassett would go on to become
the first African American US
Diplomat. There is currently a
potion to have Social Science
Hall named after Bassett
Student Center
CCSU’s Student Center is ranked
number 25 in the nation’s “30 Most
Amazing College Unions and Campus Centers”
The Student Center also houses CCSU’s
Student Government Association as well as the
Devil’s Den Food Court.
Burritt Library Named after New Britain diplomat Elihu Burritt, the Burritt
library sits next the Student Center. The library offers many
services from 3D printing to the interloan library system.
