CCSU was originally founded in 1849 as the New Britain Normal School. Davidson Hall, pictured, is the oldest building on campus and originally housed classrooms. Marcus White Hall was originally a dormitory and now houses the largest computer lab and health services. The RECentral fitness studio in Memorial Hall offers free recreational classes like spinning and yoga. Ebenezer D. Bassett was the first African American graduate of CCSU and went on to become the first African American US diplomat. The student center is ranked #25 nationally and houses student government and a food court. Burritt Library, named for Elihu Burritt, sits next to the student center and offers services like 3D printing.
