Moderated online social networking for smokers: Content of first posts from 2...Gunther Eysenbach
The document summarizes a study that analyzed the content of first posts from 2,562 members of an online social network for smokers called StopSmokingCenter.net. It found that 15% of registered members made at least one post. Most posters were recent quitters seeking support, and they posted quickly after registering. Replies usually came within an hour and mainly provided encouragement or advice from other members who had quit for at least a month. The study provided insights but had limitations like an unknown true denominator and lack of data on quit rates between posters and non-posters.
DiscussionThe utilization of functional communication trainingDustiBuckner14
Discussion
The utilization of functional communication training has been proven to have a major influence on the lives of individuals faced with maladaptive behaviors. Behavioral challenges are diverse, especially in children. The brain controls the body's functionality as well as the coordination of human activities. Thus, these symptoms do not reference physical well-being, which social and environmental changes could have explained. Therefore, this study investigated the use of a critical intervention, functional communication training, to assess its effectiveness in controlling behavior challenges.
The findings from the study have shown that Functional Communication Training is efficient in limiting the frequency of maladaptive behaviors among individuals. These findings are consistent with Caldwell (2018), who integrated technological frameworks in investigating the efficacy of Functional Communication Training in controlling maladaptive behavior. The results from their study found a significant change in adverse behavioral challenges reported by subjects in the study.
Comment by Holly Rittenhouse-Cea: connect to future research: length of communication training on outcomes of challenging behavior
A longer implementation of FCT is associated with increased positive outcomes. The needs and well-being of participants are effectively engaged, which offers a clear and more interactive emphasis on the needed outcomes. Ghaemmaghami et al. (2020) stated that improving the communication approach among children with maladaptive behaviors allows a proper understanding of new behavior, which is vital in making informed decisions. Further, longer communication training on major functional concepts will enable participants to understand the basic approaches that control challenging behavior. (connect to future research: length of communication training on outcomes of challenging behavior)
Similarly to Roby (2016) assessing the efficacy of functional communication training in children with autism spectrum disorder, it was revealed that FCT is essential in increasing appropriate communication skills and reducing unwanted problem behaviors among individuals.

The document summarizes consumer research findings from interviews of 50 viewers of the Bhavishyaphal astrology show. Key findings include:
1) The majority (50%) of viewers watch the show more than 5 times a week and are considered "addicted", while 24% participate 3-4 times a week and are considered "heavy users".
2) Most (76%) viewers call the show seeking advice about work and family relations and call instantly to get instant solutions.
3) While all respondents could connect to the show number, 84% faced problems after connecting and only 12 ultimately spoke to live astrologers.
In Qatar, the prevailing sentiment is uncertainty about the health of family members and the duration of the COVID-19 crisis. Although consumers are optimistic about the country’s economic recovery after the COVID-19 situation subsides, they are cutting their spending on almost all categories. During the crisis, consumers have both adopted and increased their usage of digital activities such as remote learning, videoconferencing, and contactless delivery and pickup of food and supplies.
These exhibits are based on survey data collected in Qatar from April 24–May 1, 2020. Check back for regular updates on Qatari residents’ consumer sentiments, behaviors, income, spending, and expectations.
This document discusses the Raindrop treatment for presbyopia, which involves placing a small hydrogel inlay under the cornea's surface to improve near and intermediate vision. It provides data on the large market opportunity for presbyopia treatments, details on the Raindrop inlay design and mechanism of action, and clinical trial results demonstrating improvements in near/intermediate vision, visual symptoms, night driving, and patient satisfaction. The regulatory and clinical trial timelines are outlined, as well as the commercial strategy for an international launch following US approval.

This document summarizes an extended study on the use of Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training games to help improve math skills in students. The initial small study found significant improvements in mental math accuracy and speed of processing. This led to a larger randomized controlled trial across 634 students in various Scottish schools. The results showed that while both the Nintendo and control groups improved math accuracy, the gains were greater for the Nintendo group. Additionally, the Nintendo group significantly improved their speed of calculation compared to the control group. However, attitudes and self-concept were largely unchanged. More questions are now raised about how to best utilize these games to enhance learning.
The document summarizes consumer research findings about a backend astrology service. It found that 50% of respondents watch the associated TV show over 5 times a week, while 44% participate in the service 1-2 times a week. Respondents seek advice about future and career and call instantly for detailed solutions. While all liked the service, 62% found call charges and connectivity issues troublesome. Overall the service was rated good by 54% of respondents.
The document provides survey results from 1,000 respondents on transportation habits, learning styles, media consumption, and podcast listening behaviors. Key findings include:
- Most respondents spend 30-59 minutes driving per weekday, while fewer spend over 2 hours. Time spent as a passenger is lower.
- Visual and physical learning are most common. Watching online videos is more common than listening.
- Entertainment, news, and sports are the most listened to podcast topics. Friends/family and social media are main ways to discover new podcasts.
- Podcast subscriptions increase with age and income. Parents are more likely to listen to certain topics like arts/crafts and cooking.

Student wellbeing survey results (Biggins and Holley)debbieholley1
Background
Research from Jisc, the EU and House of Lords all point to the growing need for digital skills in staff and students.
Covid-19 has intensified the focus on these skills as learning went mostly online from March 2020.
The particular focus of this research is on a) how students access learning materials and b) students’ digital
wellbeing.
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to set out the findings and analysis from the questionnaire responses that have been
received to date. It is therefore an interim report.
Methodology
The questionnaire, which can be seen in Appendix 1 was created and approved for use by the BU Ethics Committee.
The questionnaire uses radio button, free-test fields and Likert-type questions.
The confidence levels use the following scale:
1. Unaware. You have not heard of the technology.
2. Aware. You are aware of the technology but have not used it.
3. Practiced. You have a working knowledge of the technology and can use it but usually need help.
4. Competent. You can use the technology and have detailed knowledge.
5. Expert. You are recognised as an expert by fellow students.
The other Likert-type questions use more standard options:
Frequency is expressed using the scale: Never/very rarely; rarely; occasionally; frequently; always/very
frequently.
Difficulty is expressed using the scale: Very difficult; difficult; neither easy nor difficult; easy; very easy; N/A.
Agreement is expressed using the scale: Strongly disagree; disagree; neither agree nor disagree; agree;
strongly agree.
Only the minimum data needed to identify the respondent’s level of study and department was mandatory. All other
questions were optional.
The data was analysed and presented using r.
Full BU ethics was obtained to collect and disseminate the data.
Student digital wellbeing survey interim results - August 2021David Biggins
The interim findings of a survey of 92 students in Higher Education on the subject of digital wellbeing. The survey asks about confidence in using learning resources, internet access, accessing study materials online, how much control students should have over the technology they use and whether institutions are doing enough to support students.
