“When I started with Catholic Hospice four years ago, we had just under 250

desk,” recalls Avila. “It got to the point that our receptionist had to call me and
say, ‘You have over 100 voice mails’.”

‘hire’ in Taleo, I can automatically start processing a background check with
HireRight by clicking ‘order’ in the same application,” Avila explains.
A Better Applicant Management Process
Prior to implementing Taleo, Avila had a very time-intensive recruiting
process that involved mining resumes through job boards, placing ads in
newspapers and trade magazines, and asking candidates to come in person
for a paper-based application process. Using Taleo allows Avila to begin the screening process by establishing the qualifications
for a position before applications ever hit her desk. “Taleo has the option to add questions about job qualifications, which helps me
sort and select the candidates that match the needs of the open position. If I’m looking for a nurse with over five years of experience
in hospice care, I can add that question to the online application screen.” What’s more, Taleo allows managers within Catholic
Hospice to access candidate data. “I work with more than 20 hiring managers, and they all use Taleo to screen and reach out to the
candidates,” says Avila.
Faster Background Screens
Once a job offer is extended to an applicant, Avila orders a background check from HireRight to help ensure the applicant has
the professional skills and qualifications the organization requires. HireRight has replaced the former in-house, labor-intensive
background checks that once monopolized Avila’s time. “Our old system was a manual screening process. I consulted at least eight
different websites to find information. For example, I would go to motor vehicles and purchase a report. Then, I would go to the court
system and purchase that report,” recalls Avila. “It would take me an hour to process just one applicant.”
Implementing HireRight’s employment screening services has helped Avila eliminate the time required to conduct manual searches.
“Today, HireRight does all of our background screening. Within Taleo, it’s easy to order the HireRight pre-employment screening
report and the turnaround time is fast. I average less than five days to get my results. Most reports come back in two or three days,”
Avila describes. “I don’t have to constantly go on the system to find out the status. I automatically get an email when the background
check is completed. I just print out the report, attach it to the personnel file, and that’s it.”
Customized Screening Packages
Catholic Hospice has unique screening needs to ensure they are complying with the ever-expanding laws and regulations in the
health care industry. With HireRight, Avila creates custom screening packages for different categories of employee. “Each of our three
packages is modified to our healthcare requirements,” explains Avila. “We have clinical, nonclinical, and volunteer packages. When
I choose a clinical package for a newly hired nurse, there are certain requirements for that background screen. For an office staff
member, I choose the non-patient care package that processes a different type of background check.”
