1. Raise the temperature of bearing (17) and cover assembly (15) .
2. Install bearing (17) and cover assembly (15) onto shaft assembly (16) .

3. Install cover assembly (15) and bolts (14) .
4. Install shaft (13) .
5. Install seal (11) and seal (12) .

7. Install gears (9) .

8. Install seal (7) and seal (8) .
9. Install bearing (6) .
10. Install O-ring seal (5) .

11. Install O-ring seal (3) and housing (4) .
12. Install head (2) and bolts (1). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft).
End By: Install the gear motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Motor (Hydraulic
Generator) - Install".

Installation Procedure
1. Install key (8) .

2. Install hub (6), lockwasher (7), and nut (5). Tighten nut (5) to a torque of 80 ± 20 N·m (59 ±
15 lb ft).
3. Install coupling (4) .

4. Position gear motor (1) and install bolts (2). Connect hose assemblies (3) .

Control Valve (Hydraulic Generator) - Remove
SMCS - 5051-011
Removal Procedure
Start By:
A. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic
System Pressure - Release".
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure.
Hot oils can cause burns.
To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the work
tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits,
and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or
components are disconnected or removed.
Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap
is cool enough to touch.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service
Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will
reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.
To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always
plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover
any disassembled components and clean them properly before
assembly.
Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component
exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any
contamination.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for
installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this
helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

1. Disconnect hose assemblies (4) and harness assembly (3) .
2. Remove bolts (2). Use two people to remove control valve (1). The weight of control valve
(1) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb).

Control Valve (Hydraulic Generator) - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
A. Remove the control valve (hydraulic generator). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly,
"Control Valve (Hydraulic Generator) - Remove".
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
1. Remove bolts (1) and actuator (2) .
2. Remove solenoid valve (3), spring (6), and O-ring seals (4) and (5) .
3. Remove retainer (10), spool (9), plug (8), and makeup valve (7) .

4. Remove backup ring (11) and O-ring seals (12) from makeup valve (7) .
5. Remove plugs (13) and (14) .

6. Remove spring (15) and O-ring seal (16) from plug (13) .
7. Remove spring (17) and O-ring seal (18) from plug (14) .
8. Remove spool (20) and nut (19) .

9. Remove cartridge (21). Remove plugs (22), (23), and (24) .
10. Remove bolts (26), plate assembly (25), and O-ring seal (27) .

11. Remove spring (28) and plug (29) .

12. Remove plug (30), cone (31), spring (32), and O-ring seal (33) .

Control Valve (Hydraulic Generator) - Assemble

Assembly Procedure

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
1. Install O-ring seal (33), spring (32), cone (31), and plug (30). Tighten plug (30) to a torque
of 120 N·m (89 lb ft).
2. Install spring (28) and plug (29). Tighten plug (29) to a torque of 200 N·m (148 lb ft).

3. Install plate assembly (25), O-ring seal (27), and bolts (26). Tighten bolts (26) to a torque of
10.4 N·m (92 lb in).
4. Install cartridge (21). Install plugs (22), (23), and (24). Tighten plug (22) to a torque of 60
N·m (44 lb ft). Tighten plug (23) to a torque of 45 N·m (33 lb ft). Tighten plug (24) to a
torque of 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

5. Install spool (20) and nut (19). Tighten nut (19) to a torque of 80 N·m (59 lb ft).
6. Install spring (15) and O-ring seal (16) to plug (13) .
7. Install spring (17) and O-ring seal (18) to plug (14) .

8. Install plugs (13) and (14). Tighten plug (13) to a torque of 80 N·m (59 lb ft). Tighten plug
(14) to a torque of 90 N·m (66 lb ft).
9. Install backup ring (11) and O-ring seals (12) to makeup valve (7) .

10. Install retainer (10), spool (9), plug (8), and makeup valve (7). Tighten makeup valve (7) to
a torque of 100 N·m (74 lb ft). Tighten plug (8) to a torque of 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
11. Install solenoid valve (3), spring (6), and O-ring seals (4) and (5). Tighten solenoid valve (3)
to a torque of 12 ± 5 N·m (106 ± 44 lb in).

12. Install actuator (2) and bolts (1). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 10.4 N·m (92 lb in).
