Clutch Control Valve (Direct Drive)

Remove And Install Clutch Control Valve (Direct Drive)
1. Clean all dirt from the back of the transmission before the clutch control valve is removed.
2. Remove the two bolts and the cover that protect switch (3).
3. Disconnect two wires from switch (3).
4. Remove the bolt and clip that hold tube (1) in position.
5. Loosen the bolt on lever (2) and slide the lever off the shaft.
6. The weight of the clutch control valve is 32 kg (71 lb). Use two persons and remove fifteen
bolts (4) and the clutch control valve and gasket. Do not remove bolt (5), since it does not hold the
clutch control valve to the transmission cover.

3. 7. Remove two O-ring seals (6) and three tubes (7) and the O-ring seals from the transmission
cover.
NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the clutch control valve.
8. Inspect the condition of the seals and gasket and replace if necessary.
9. Put two O-ring seals (6) in position on the transmission cover. Install the O-ring seals on three
tubes (7) and install them into the transmission cover.
10. Use two 3/8 " - 16 NC guide bolts and put the gasket in position on the transmission cover.
Put the clutch control valve in position and install fifteen bolts (4).
11. Install lever (2) onto the shaft and tighten the bolt. Install the bolt and clip that holds tube (1)
to the case.
12. Connect two wires to switch (3). Install the cover that protects switch (3).

4. 1. Remove 11 bolts (1) and valve assembly (3) from manifold assembly (2). For assembly, tighten
bolts (1) to a torque of 32 ± 4 N·m (24 ± 3 lb ft).
2. Remove the plate that goes between the valve and the manifold assembly.
3. Loosen two bolts (4) evenly to release the spring pressure behind plate (5). Remove bolts (4).
For assembly, tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 32 ± 4 N·m (24 ± 3 lb ft).
4. Remove spring (8), slug (7) and spool assembly (6) from valve assembly (3).
5. Remove spring (11), spool assembly (10) and slug (9) from valve assembly (3).

5. 6. Use tool (A), and remove retaining ring (15). Remove guide (13), spring (14) and ball (12) from
spool assembly (6).
7. Remove spacers (16) from spool assembly (10).
8. Use tool (A), and remove retaining ring (18). Remove retainer (17), spring (20) and plunger
(19) from spool assembly (10).
9. Put identification marks on links (21) and (22) for assembly purposes.
10. Measure the distance from the valve assembly to the end of links (21) and (22). Record the
dimensions for assembly purposes.
11. Loosen jam nuts (23), and remove links (21) and (22) from the valve assembly. For assembly,
install links (21) and (22) from the valve assembly. For assembly, install links (21) and (22), and
adjust to the dimensions that were measured in Step 10. Tighten two jam nuts (23) to a torque of
34 ± 4 N·m (25 ± 3 lb ft).

6. There is spring pressure behind cover (26) which may cause the
assembly to fly apart when the three bolts are removed. To prevent
possible personal injury, longer bolts should be used to release the
spring pressure.
12. Remove one bolt (24), and install one bolt from tooling (B). Remove bolt (27), and install the
other bolt from tooling (B). Remove bolt (25). Loosen the two bolts from tooling (B) evenly, and
release the spring pressure behind cover (26).
13. Remove spring (29) and spool assembly (28) from location (X) of valve assembly (3).

16. Remove retainer (40), spring (44), spring (43), retainer (42) and piston (41) from the valve
assembly.
17. Use a hammer and a punch, and remove pin (39) from valve assembly (3).
18. Remove retaining ring (46), retainer (48), spring (45) and spring (47) from piston (41).
19. Use a hammer and a punch, and remove dowel (49), and remove the stop from valve assembly
(3).

8. 20. Remove valve assembly (50) from valve assembly (3). For assembly, put SAE 30 oil on the
inner bore of valve assembly (3) before valve assembly (50) and the O-ring seal are installed.
21. Remove the dowel, the ball and the O-ring seal from valve assembly (50).
22. Remove the nut that holds rod end (53) to lever assembly (52). Disconnect the rod end from
the lever assembly.
23. Remove key (54) from shaft (56). Remove bolt (55). Remove shaft (56) from manifold
assembly (2) and the lever. Remove the lever and rod assembly from manifold assembly (2).
24. Remove bolt (51) and lever assembly (52) from the manifold assembly.
25. Use tool (D), and remove two retaining rings (57). Remove washer (59) and dowel (58).

9. 26. Remove shaft (61) from lever assembly (52). Remove seal (60) from shaft (61). For assembly,
put SAE 30 oil on the inner bore of lever assembly (52) before shaft (61) and seal (60) are
installed.
27. Use tool (D), and remove three retaining rings (63) and roller (64) from dowel (62). Remove
dowel (62) from the lever assembly.
28. Use tooling (E), and remove the two bearings from the lever assembly. For assembly, drive on
the stamped end of the two bearings. Install them to a depth of 3 ± 1 mm (.118 ± .039 in) below
the outer face of lever assembly (52).
29. Use tooling (E), and remove two bearings (65) and two lip-type seals (66) from the manifold
assembly. For assembly of bearings (65) and seals (66), use the following steps:
a. Drive on the stamped end of two bearings (65). Install them to a depth of 13.0 ± 0.5 mm (.512
± .020 in) below the outer face of the manifold assembly.
b. Install two lip-type seals (66) with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the manifold assembly
as shown in illustration C3548P1.
30. Remove plug (70) and O-ring seal. Remove retainer (69), spring (68) and lube relief poppet
(67) from the manifold assembly.
31. Remove start switch (71) and O-ring seal from the manifold assembly.

10. NOTE: The following steps are for assembly of the clutch control valves (direct drive)
NOTICE
Do not use caustic (corrosive) materials to clean any parts in this valve
group. Caustic materials will cause corrosion and damage to parts.
32. Make sure all of the parts of the clutch hydraulic control valves are clean. Inspect all seals, and
replace if necessary.
33. Put SAE 30 oil on all parts of the valves before assembly.
34. Do Step 1 through Step 31 in the reverse order for assembly of the valves.
35. Use tool (F) to check and adjust the valve. See Specifications, Form No. SENR3239 for the
adjustment procedure.

12. 2. Remove six bolts (1) that holds the drive shaft to the flex coupling.
3. Remove four bolts (2) that holds the drive shaft to yoke assembly (3). Slide the yoke assembly
into the transmission and remove the drive shaft.
4. If necessary, remove four bolts (4) and remove bearing (5).
NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the main drive shaft.
5. Put bearing (5) in position on the drive shaft and install four bolts (4). Tighten bolts (4) to a
torque of 55 ± 7 N·m (41 ± 5 lb ft).
6. Put the drive shaft in position and install six bolts (1).
7. Align yoke assembly (3) with bearing (5) and install four bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque
of 55 ± 7 N·m (41 ± 5 lb ft).
8. Install the bottom guard.

NOTE: The removal and installation procedure for the power train oil pump drive shaft is the

1. Remove four bolts (1) that hold the two halves of the drive shaft guard together. The two bolts
on the back also hold two wiring harness clips.
2. Remove bolts (3), bracket (2), and the two drive shaft guard halves.
NOTE: Tube assembly (5) will be free to turn when bolts (4) are removed from the engine end.
3. Remove three bolts (4) from each end of tube assembly (5) and remove the tube assembly.

15. 4. Remove three bolts (6) at each end to remove the coupling assemblies.
NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the pump coupling drive shaft.
5. Put the coupling assemblies in position, if they were removed, and install bolts (6).
6. Put tube assembly (5) in position and install three bolts (4) at each end.
7. Put the two drive shaft guard halves and bracket (2) in position and install bolts (1) and (3).
Make sure the two wiring harness clips are installed with the bolts on the back of the drive shaft
guard.

Remove And Install Engine To Transmission Adapter (Direct
Drive)
Start By:
a. remove main drive shaft
1. Disconnect the hose that attaches to connector (2).
2. Remove bolt (3) and the washer. Remove coupling assembly (1).

17. 3. Remove two of bolts (4), and install 7/16 two " - 14 guide bolts. Remove remaining bolts (4).
Slide cover out on the guide bolts, and remove cover (5). The weight of cover (5) is 21 kg (46 lb).
4. Remove O-ring seal (7) from the cover.
5. Use tool (A), and remove lip-type seal (6) from cover (5).
6. Perform Step 1 through Step 5 in the reverse order to install the engine to transmission adapter
group.
End By:

Torque Divider

Remove And Install Torque Divider
Start By:
a. remove torque converter outlet relief valve
b. remove main drive shaft
1. Remove the floor plate in cab.
2. Loosen the flange bolts on hose (3) and drain the oil from the torque divider. Disconnect hose
(3) from the torque divider when the oil has drained. Remove the O-ring seal from hose (3).
3. Disconnect hose assemblies (2) and remove the O-ring seal. Disconnect hose assembly (1) from
the torque divider.

19. 4. Remove elbow (5) from the bottom of the flywheel housing. Remove the O-ring seal from
elbow (5).
5. Remove sleeve (4). Remove two O-ring seals from sleeve (4).
6. The weight of the torque divider is 145 kg (320 lb). Install tooling (A) onto the torque divider.
7. Install tooling (B) to the ceiling of the cab, as shown. Attach tooling (B) to tooling (A).
8. Remove the twelve bolts that fasten the torque divider to the flywheel housing. Separate the
torque divider from the flywheel housing. Use tooling (B) and lower the torque divider to the
ground.

20. 9. Remove the large O-ring seal from the torque divider housing.
NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the torque divider.
10. Install the O-ring seal onto the torque divider housing.
11. Use tooling (A), tooling (B), and two 3/8" guide bolts and put the torque divider in position on
the flywheel housing.
12. Make sure the teeth are aligned with the flywheel, and install the twelve bolts that hold the
torque divider to the flywheel housing. Remove tooling (A) and (B).
13. Install the O-ring seals onto sleeve (4) and elbow (5). Install the sleeve and elbow onto the
bottom of the torque divider.
14. Put the O-ring seal in position on hose assemblies (2). Connect hose assemblies (2) and (1) to
the torque divider.
15. Put the O-ring seal in position on hose assembly (3) and connect it to the torque divider
housing.
16. Install the floor plate in cab.
17. Check the power train oil level and add as necessary. See the Operation and Maintenance
Guide for the type of oil and capacity.

21. NOTICE
When a torque converter or divider has a failure, the complete oil
system for the torque converter, torque divider and transmission must
be thoroughly cleaned. Any foreign material which is not removed
from the oil system for the torque converter will move through the
hydraulic system for the transmission.
1. Use tool (A), and remove retaining ring (1) from the shaft.
2. Remove planetary carrier (2).
3. Remove retainer (4) and retaining ring (3) from the planetary carrier.

22. 4. Use a hammer and a punch to push pin (8) into shaft (7).
5. Remove shaft (7), two washers (9) and gear (6).
6. Remove bearings (5) from the gear.
7. Remove the pin from shaft (7).
8. Remove the bolt, retainer, O-ring seal and yoke.
9. Put wood blocks under the converter group, as shown, so the cover can be removed.
10. Remove eight bolts (10).
11. The weight of cover (12) is 68 kg (150 lb). Install tooling (B), and attach a hoist. Install two
3/8 " - 16 NC forcing screws (11) in the cover. Tighten the forcing screws evenly, and remove
cover (12).
12. Remove O-ring seal (14) and lip-type seal (13).

24. 13. Remove two bolts (15) and washers 180° apart from each other. Drain the oil from the
converter.
14. Use tool (C), and remove retaining ring (17).
15. Remove shaft assembly (16) and the bearing.
16. Remove seal ring (21) from shaft assembly (19).
17. Remove bearing (20) from the shaft assembly.
NOTE: Race (18) will be destroyed if it is removed from the shaft assembly.
18. Remove race (18) from the shaft assembly if necessary.
19. Remove the remaining thirty-four bolts (15) and washers. Install two 3/8 " - 16 NC forcing
screws (23) into impeller wheel (22).
20. The weight of impeller wheel (22) and the carrier assembly is 30 kg (66 lb). Install tooling
(D), and attach a hoist. Tighten two forcing screws (23) evenly, and remove the impeller wheel
and carrier assembly.

25. Use care to avoid causing damage to the stator when it is removed.
21. Remove eight bolts (24), and remove stator assembly (25).
22. Support the wheel and carrier assembly as close to the center as possible with wood blocks.
Use tooling (E) on the inside diameter of pins (26), and remove carrier (27).
23. Remove seal ring (28) and pins (26) from the carrier.
24. Remove the eight bolts that fasten retainer (29) to the impeller wheel. Use two 3/8 " - 24 NF
forcing screws, and remove retainer (29).
25. Use tool (F), and remove carrier (30) and the bearing.

26. 26. Use tool (F), and remove bearing (31) from carrier (30).
27. Use tool (G), and remove retaining ring (33) from the flange.
28. Remove turbine wheel (32) from housing (34) and the flange assembly. Remove the spacer
that is under turbine wheel (32).
29. The weight of the housing with gear and flange assembly is 35.5 kg (78 lb). Turn the housing
over, and remove two stop pins (35).
30. Compress the retaining ring, and remove gear (36). Remove the retaining ring.
31. Install two 3/8 " - 16 NC forcing screws in flange assembly (37). Tighten the forcing screws
evenly, and remove flange assembly (37) from the housing.
