Start By:
A. Remove the piston motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Motor (Drum
Propel) - Remove".
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, the exterior
of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the
internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt. Perform
disassembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all
times.
Note: Regular maintenance and frequent inspections are routine precautions. Practice preventive
maintenance before damage occurs. Preventive maintenance can help to avoid a failure. If a failure
occurs, an accurate diagnosis of the cause can prevent a recurrence. Information is available to
analyze the failures of the piston pump and the motor. Refer to Special Publication, SEBD0641,
"Analyzing Axial Piston Pump and Motor Failures".
Note: After disassembly has been completed, check the condition of all the components. Refer to
Guideline For Reusable Parts, SEBF8032, "Piston Pumps and Motors". During reconditioning,

correct any conditions that might have caused the original failure. Information is available to
analyze failures on the piston pumps and the motor. Refer to Special Publication, SEBD0641,
"Analyzing Axial Piston Pump and Motor Failures".

1. Remove bolts (2) and valve (3) from housing (1) .
2. Remove O-ring seal (4) from valve (3) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

release the spring force.

25. Remove retaining ring (32), spring (33), washer (34), and pins (35) from barrel (28) .
27. Remove swashplate (37) and pin (38) .
28. Remove the bearings from the swashplate.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning
fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be
deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or
damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision
component. Perform assembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and
protected at all times.
Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the
components, if necessary.

1. Install seal (43) .
2. Install retaining ring (42) .
3. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (41) .
4. Install bearing cone (41) onto shaft (39) .

11. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to install retaining ring (32) .
12. Install retaining ring (32), spring (33), washer (34), and pins (35) from barrel (28) .
13. Install retainer (31) .
14. Install plate (29) onto pistons (30) .

Piston Motor (Drum Propel) - Install

Installation Procedure
1. Use two persons and install propel motor (5) and two bolts (7). The weight of the propel
motor is approximately 24 kg (53 lb).
2. Install hose assemblies (4) on propel motor (5) .
3. Install hose assemblies (6) and (3) on drum propel motor (5) .
4. Install hose assembly (2) on final drive planetary (1) .

5. Fill final drive planetary (1) with oil. The capacity of the final drive planetary is
approximately 3.2 L (0.86 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the
correct procedure.

Final Drive Planetary (Drum Propel) - Remove

Start By:
A. Remove the drum. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drum - Remove".
1. Drain the oil from the final drive planetary into a suitable container. The capacity of the
final drive planetary is approximately 3.2 L (0.86 US gal). Refer to Operation and
Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.

2. Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (A) to plate (1), as shown.
3. Remove bolts (2) and remove plate (1), the mounting plate, the drum propel motor, and the
final drive planetary as a unit from the mounts. The weight of the plate, the mounting plate,
the propel motor and the final drive planetary is approximately 327 kg (720 lb).
4. Remove bolts (4) from propel motor (3). Use two persons and remove the propel motor. The
weight of the propel motor is approximately 24 kg (53 lb). Remove the O-ring seal from the
propel motor.
5. Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (B) to plate (5). Remove bolts (6) and remove
plate (5). The weight of the plate is approximately 50 kg (110 lb).
6. Remove the bolts and remove adapter (7) from the final drive planetary. Remove the O-ring
seal from the adapter.

7. Attach Tooling (B) to plate (8). Remove bolts (9) and remove plate (8) from final drive
planetary (10). The weight of plate (8) for the CS-533E is approximately 84 kg (185 lb).
The weight of plate (8) for the CP-533E is approximately 94 kg (207 lb).
