1. Install retaining ring (42). Raise the temperature of stator (33) and lower the temperature of
cam (41). Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press in order to install cam (41).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
2. Position plate (38). Install retaining ring (37). Position bearing (34). Install carrier (26).
Reposition stator (33). Install springs (36) with the maximum number of loops to the
outside. Install rollers (35).
Note: Carrier (26) should only rotate counterclockwise once rollers (35) and springs (36)
are installed.
3. Position plate (40). Install retaining ring (39).

4. Install O-ring seal (31) in adapter (29).
5. Position impeller (24) on adapter (29). Position hub (30). Install bolts (28). Tighten bolts
(28) to a torque of 105 ± 14 N·m (77 ± 10 lb ft). Install race (27).
6. Install carrier (26) onto stator (33). Install bearing (32).

7. Use two people in order to reposition impeller (24) on carrier (26). The weight of impeller
(24) is approximately 31 kg (70 lb). Install retaining ring (25).
8. Install bearing (23).
9. Install race (22).

10. Install hub (21).
11. Position turbine (20). Install O-ring seal (19). Install dowels (18) to a height of
37.0 ± 0.5 mm (1.46 ± 0.02 inch).
12. Install plate (17) and race (16). Install O-ring seal (15).

13. Install plate (14) and O-ring seal.
14. Install bearing (13). Install discs and plates (12).
15. Install coupling assembly (9) and bolts (8). Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 60 ± 7 N·m
(44 ± 5 lb ft). Install race (11). Install retainer and O-ring seal (10).

16. Install O-ring seal (7). Install piston (6). Install ring (5).
17. Lower the temperature of bearing (3). Use Tooling (B) in order to install bearing (3). Ensure
that bearing (3) is flush with the inside of the housing. Install ring (4).
18. The weight of housing assembly (2) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb). Attach Tooling (A) and
a suitable lifting device to housing assembly (2).Install housing assembly (2). Tighten bolts
(1) to a torque of 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft).

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (4). The weight of
torque converter (4) is approximately 91 kg (200 lb). Install torque converter (4) into torque
converter housing.
Note: Torque converter needs to make three spline connections to be properly seated. After
installation, torque converter protrusion from torque converter housing must measure
30 mm (1.18 inch) and spin freely.
2. Install bolt (3). Tighten bolt (3) to a torque of 285 ± 15 N·m (210 ± 11 lb ft).

3. Install plug (2) and O-ring seal. Tighten plug (2) to a torque of 285 ± 15 N·m
(210 ± 11 lb ft).
4. Use Tooling (B) to position transmission vertically.
5. The weight of transmission (1) is approximately 590 kg (1300 lb). Use a suitable lifting
device in order to remove transmission from Tooling (B).
6. Remove Tooling (A) from transmission housing.

Start By:
a. Remove the torque converter.
b. Remove the gear pump (transmission scavenge).
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Remove lip seal (1).
2. Disconnect harness assembly (2) and remove cable straps (3).
3. Disconnect harness assembly and remove cable strap (4).

4. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter housing (5). The weight
of torque converter housing (5) is approximately 227 kg (500 lb).
5. Remove nuts and bolts (6). Remove bolt (7) and remove torque converter housing (5).
6. Remove seal (8). If necessary remove studs (9).

1. Install studs (9) if removed. Install seal (8).

2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter housing. The weight of
torque converter housing (5) is approximately 227 kg (500 lb). Install torque converter
housing (5).
3. Apply Tooling (D) to the housing spotface and washer of bolt (7).
Note: Remove excess sealant after bolt (7) is torqued.
4. Install bolt (7). Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of studs (9). Install nuts (6). Tighten bolt
(7) and nuts (6) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft).
