Note: The transmission will be assembled in major components. The major components will then
be assembled.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned
in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts.
Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are
worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Note: Apply a light film of clean transmission oil to all components before assembly.
Note: O-ring seals, gaskets, and seals should always be replaced. A used O-ring seal may not have
the same sealing properties as a new O-ring seal. Use Tooling (M) during the assembly procedure.

1. During the installation of all the needle bearings on the shafts, the open end of cups (1) must
point away from the bearings or gears that are contacted.
Reverse Shaft

1. Install piston (17) .
2. Install spring assembly (15) .

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
3. Use a suitable press and Tooling (G) in order to compress spring assembly (15). Use
Tooling (H) in order to install retaining ring (16) .
4. Install friction discs (13) and plates (14) .

5. Install end plate (12) and retaining ring (11) .
6. Install thrust washer (8), needle bearing (9) and roller bearing (10) .

7. Install gear (4). Install roller bearing (5), needle bearing (6), and thrust washer (7). Raise the
temperature of bearing cone (3). Install bearing cone (3) .
8. Install seal rings (1) onto reverse shaft (2) .

9. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (18). Install bearing cone (18) .
Input Shaft

4. Install discs (31) and plates (32) .

6. Install thrust washer (28) and needle bearing (27). Install roller bearings (25) and (26) .
7. Install gear (24) .

8. Install needle bearing (23) and thrust washer (22) .
10. Install ring (20) .

13. Use Tooling (G) and a suitable press in order to compress spring assembly (17). Use
14. Install discs (15) and plates (16) .
15. Install retaining ring (13) and end plate (14) .

16. Install thrust washer (8), needle bearing (9), roller bearing (10), spacer (11), and roller
bearing (12) .
17. Install gear (7), needle bearing (6), and thrust washer (5) .

18. Install retaining ring (4) .
20. Install seal rings (1) onto input shaft (2) .
Countershaft

3. Use Tooling (G) and a suitable press in order to compress spring assembly (19). Use

6. Install thrust washer (14) and needle bearing (13). Install roller bearings (11) and (12) .
7. Install gear (10) .

8. Install needle bearing (9) and thrust washer (8) .
10. Install seal rings (6) .

11. Raise the temperature of gears (4) and (5). Install gears (4) and (5) .

13. Install washer (2) and bolt (1) .
Output Shaft (Rear)

6. Install thrust washer (20), needle bearing (21), roller bearing (22), spacer (23) and roller
bearing (24) .
