Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Remove the axle from the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle - Remove".
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service
Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Drain the oil from the axle. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Axle Oil (Rear) -
Change".

assembly purposes.
2. Position suitable blocks under the axle in order to support the sections during removal. Attach a
suitable lifting device onto the axle housing. The weight of the axle housing is approximately 147 kg
(325 lb). Remove bolts (1).

4. Repeat Steps 2 through 3 for the other side.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
2. Remove bolts (8) . Remove the bolts and springs (9) as an assembly. Use a suitable pry bar
and remove brake piston (7) from brake cylinder assembly (5) . Remove O-ring seals (6)
from brake piston (7) . Repeat this step for the opposite side.
