Oil Filter And Base
SMCS - 1306-11; 1306-12; 1306-15; 1306-16
Remove Oil Filter And Base
NOTE: The engine side panel was removed for plate illustration.
1. Loosen bolt (1) and remove housing (2) and the oil filter. Remove the oil filter from housing
(2).
2. Remove oil filter outlet line (5). Remove oil filter inlet line (4).
3. Remove four bolts (3) that hold the filter base to the cooler. Remove the oil filter base.
Install Oil Filter And Base

TYPICAL EXAMPLE
1. Inspect O-ring seals (1). Install new seals if needed. Put base (2) in position on the cooler and
install the four bolts that hold it in place.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE
2. Put clean oil on the O-ring seals for the inlet and outlet oil lines. Install inlet oil line (3) and
outlet oil line (4).
3. Install a new oil filter (6) in housing (7).
4. Put housing (7) in position and tighten bolt (5).
Disassemble Oil Filter Base
start by:
a) remove oil filter and base

TYPICAL EXAMPLE
1. Remove the bolts (1) and covers (2) for the bypass valves.
2. Remove the springs and plungers.
Assemble Oil Filter Base
TYPICAL EXAMPLE
1. Install plunger (4), spring (3), cover (2) and bolts (1) of bypass valve for oil cooler in oil filter
base.
2. Install plunger (7), spring (6), cover (5) and bolts of bypass valve for oil filter in oil filter base.

Engine Oil Cooler
SMCS - 1378-11; 1378-12
Remove Engine Oil Cooler
NOTE: The engine side panel was removed for photo illustration.
1. Remove the coolant from the cooling system.
2. Remove bolt (1) from the oil cooler to disconnect the oil level gauge tube (2).
3. Remove four bolts (3) that hold the oil filter base to the oil cooler.

4. Loosen clamps (4).
5. Remove bolts (5) and (6) that hold the elbow to the cylinder block, and remove the bolt that
holds the pipe on the opposite end of the oil cooler to the cylinder block.
6. Remove the elbow, oil cooler and pipe as a unit.
7. Remove pipe (7) and elbow (8) from oil cooler (9).
Install Engine Oil Cooler
1. Inspect all gaskets and make replacements if needed.
2. Install pipe (1) and elbow (3) on engine oil cooler (2).

3. Put the pipe, oil cooler and elbow in position on the engine and install the bolts that hold the
elbow to the block.
4. Install the bolt that holds the pipe to the block.
5. Install four bolts (5) that hold the oil filter base to the oil cooler.
6. Slide the hose in the correct position and tighten clamps (4).
7. Install bolt (6) that holds oil level gauge tube (7) in position.
8. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See LUBRICATION AND
MAINTENANCE GUIDE.

Water Temperature Regulator
SMCS - 1355-11; 1355-12
Remove Water Temperature Regulator
1. Drain the coolant from the engine.
2. Loosen hose clamps (1).
3. Remove four bolts (2) that hold the elbow to the head.
4. Remove elbow (3). Remove the water temperature regulator.
Install Water Temperature Regulator
1. Inspect the gasket that is between the elbow and the head. Make a replacement if needed.
2. Put water temperature regulator (1) in the cylinder head.

3. Put the elbow over the regulator. Slide the hose over the elbow and install the four bolts that
hold the elbow to the head.
4. Tighten the hose clamps.
5. Fill the engine with coolant to the correct level. See LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE
GUIDE.

Water Pump
SMCS - 1361-11; 1361-12; 1361-15; 1361-16
Remove Water Pump
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.
2. Remove the left fan guard.
3. Loosen two clamps (5) and slide hose (6) off of the elbow.
4. Loosen two clamps (7) and slide hose (4) off of the water pump.
5. Remove two bolts (1) that hold the elbow to the cylinder head.
6. Remove two bolts (3) that hold the water pump to the timing gear cover. Remove water pump
(2).

7. Remove elbow (8) from the water pump.
Install Water Pump
1. Install elbow (1) and a new gasket on the water pump.
2. Put water pump (2) in position on the timing gear cover. Install the two bolts that hold it.
3. Install the two bolts that hold the elbow to the cylinder head.
4. Put hose (3) in position on the elbow for the water pump and tighten the two clamps that hold it.
5. Install the hose under the water pump. Tighten the two clamps that hold it.
6. Install left fan guard.
7. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See LUBRICATION AND
MAINTENANCE GUIDE.
Disassemble Water Pump
start by:
a) remove water pump

1. Remove cover (1) from water pump (2).
2. Loosen bolt (3) 6.4 mm (.25 in.). Hit the bolt with a soft hammer to remove impeller (4) from
the shaft.
3. Remove spring and seal assembly (5) from the shaft (6).
4. Turn the housing over and remove bolt and washer (7). Remove bearing (8) and gear (9) as a
unit.

5. Use tool (A) and a press to remove bearing (8) from gear (9).
6. Remove snap ring (10) with tool (B).
7. Remove bearing (11) and shaft (6) as a unit.
8. Use tool (A) and a press to remove bearing (11) from the shaft.

9. Remove the ceramic ring and seal (12) from the housing.
10. Remove the lip seal (13) from the housing with tool (C).
Assemble Water Pump
1. Install lip seal in water pump housing with tooling (A). The lip of the seal must be toward the
bearings. Put clean SAE 30 engine oil on the lip of the seal.

2. Use a press to install shaft (1) in bearing (2).
3. Install the shaft (1) and bearing in the housing (3).
4. Install snap ring (4) in housing with tool (B).
5. Heat the bearing (5) in oil to a maximum temperature of 135° C (275° F) and install on gear (6).

6. Put gear (6) and bearing in position on shaft and install bolt and washer.
NOTICE
Clean water only is permitted for use as a lubricant for assistance at
installation. Do not damage or put hands on the wear surface of the
carbon ring or the ceramic ring. Install the ceramic ring with the
smoothest face of the ring toward the carbon seal assembly.
7. Put the ceramic ring (7) in position in the rubber seal. Use hand pressure and the tool (which is
with the replacement ring) to install the ceramic ring.
8. Remove spring from seal assembly (8). Use hand pressure and the tool (which is with the
replacement ring) to install the seal assembly. Push seal assembly on shaft until seal faces make
light contact.

9. Install spring (9). Put impeller (10) in position and install the washer and bolt. Tighten the bolt
to a torque of 38 ± 1 N·m (27 ± 1 lb.ft.).
10. Install gasket and cover on the housing.

Turbocharger
SMCS - 1052-11; 1052-12; 1052-15; 1052-16
Remove Turbocharger
1. Remove exhaust pipe.
2. Disconnect tube (1) from exhaust elbow.
3. Remove exhaust elbow (3) and coupling from the engine.
4. Remove oil supply line (4) and return line (6).
5. Loosen clamp (2) on the air inlet and the clamp on the turbocharger air outlet.
6. Remove bolts (5) that hold the turbocharger to exhaust manifold.
7. Remove turbocharger, weight is 22 kg (48 lb.).
Install Turbocharger
1. Inspect all seals and install new seals if needed.
2. Put 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound on threads of turbocharger bolts and exhaust elbow bolts.

3. Put the turbocharger (2) in position on the exhaust manifold and install bolts (5).
4. Tighten turbocharger bolts to a torque of 55 ± 5 N·m (40 ± 4 lb. ft.).
5. Install oil supply line (6) and return line (7).
6. Install exhaust elbow (3) and the coupling. Install the exhaust pipe.
7. Connect tube (1) to exhaust elbow.
8. Tighten clamp (4) on the air inlet and the clamp on the turbocharger air outlet.
Disassemble Turbocharger
start by:
a) remove turbocharger
1. Put the turbocharger in position on tool (A).
2. Put a mark on the compressor cover and housings for installation purpose.
3. Remove "V" clamp (2) and remove compressor cover (1).

4. Remove "V" clamp (3) and remove shaft housing from turbine housing (4).
5. Put shaft housing in tool (B). Remove nut and compressor wheel (5) from the shaft.
NOTICE
When the nut is loosened, do not put a side force on the shaft.
6. Remove shaft housing from tool (B) and remove turbine wheel (7) and shaft from housing.
7. Remove seal ring (6) from the turbine wheel.

8. Remove snap ring and insert (8) from the housing.
9. Push the sleeve (9) out of the insert. Remove the two seal rings from the sleeve.
10. Remove deflector (10), ring (15), sleeve (11), bearing (12), ring (16), snap ring (13), bearing
(17) and snap ring (14) from the housing. Remove snap rings (13) and (14) with tool (C).
NOTE: Check the oil hole in bearing (12). If the oil hole is not open this will cause a bearing
failure.
11. Turn the housing around and remove snap ring (18) and shroud (22).
12. Remove snap ring (19), sleeve (20), bearing (21), and snap ring (23). Remove the two snap
ring with tool (C).
13. Inspect all parts and install new parts as needed.
Assemble Turbocharger

1. Make sure all oil passages are open and clean. Put clean engine oil on all parts before assembly.
2. Install snap ring (4), bearing (3), sleeve (2) and snap ring (1). Install the two snap rings with
tool (A).
NOTE: Install the snap rings with the round side toward the bearing.
3. Install shroud (5) on the housing. Turn the shroud to make sure it is down on the housing even.
The high part (web) (6) on shroud, will keep the shroud from turning on the housing after
assembly.
4. Install snap ring that holds the shroud in place.
5. Install the bearing and two snap rings in the compressor end of the housing. Install the snap
rings with tool (A).
NOTE: Install the snap rings with the round side toward the bearing.
