This study assessed the spiritual health and psycho-wellness of 230 first year MBBS students in India. The students completed the Spiritual Health Assessment Scale (SHAS) to measure spiritual health and the Modified Mini Scale (MMS) to assess psycho-wellness. The results found that 71.3% of students had poor spiritual health. 57.39% of students were in the green zone of psycho-wellness, while others were in the orange or red zones indicating potential psychiatric issues. Students with higher SHAS scores, indicating better spiritual health, had significantly higher mean scores on the MMS, showing better psycho-wellness. Thus, poorer spiritual health was strongly associated with poorer psycho-wellness among the medical students
Abstract—Periodontal disease is a destructive inflammatory disease inducing profound changes in the plasma concentrations of cytokines leading to a catabolic state characterized by altered lipid metabolism and hypertriglyceridemia. This study was conducted with the aim find out association of chronic periodontitis with serum lipid parameters. Study group consist of 30 cases of chronic periodontitis (case group) and control group consist of 30 healthy individuals. Age range was kept 25-60 years to avoid extreme ages. Periodontal parameters including Plaque Index, Gingival Index, Probing Depth and Clinical Attachment Level were recorded. Lipid profile comprising of total cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL- Cholesterol and LDL was assessed and co related with periodontal parameters. This study confirms significantly higher levels of mean cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL in periodontitis group as compared to healthy group. Also, there is significant negative co relation of HDL with probing depth and clinical attachment loss. Association of hyperlipidemia and chronic periodontitis is evident in developed state of disease. With this study, this relation is confirmed based on Factor and Outcome.
This document summarizes a community-based cross-sectional study conducted in Kashmir, India that examined hepatitis B knowledge and vaccination status among the local population aged 18 and older. The study found that only 10.2% of participants had heard of hepatitis B prior to the study. Of those aware, 37.6% knew modes of transmission but knowledge of prevention methods was lower. Just 2% of participants had received the hepatitis B vaccine, with only 27% of those completing all three doses. Given these low levels of knowledge and vaccination, the study concludes there is a need for public health education campaigns in Kashmir to increase awareness and prevention of hepatitis B.
Association of Anxiety and Depression with Glaucoma-Glaucoma is the third largest cause of blindness worldwide after cataract and trachoma. Along with burden of blindness it also has psychological impact. So this study was designed to find out association of Insomnia, Anxiety and depression with Glaucoma. Abstract—Colorectal cancer is leading cancer-related public health problem. This study was conducted to determine the effect of High-Dose-Rate intraluminal brachytherapy (HDR-BT) with or without interstitial brachytherapy during neoadjuvant chemoradiation for locally advanced rectal cancer. This randomized contrial was conducted on 28 patients attended with locally advanced rectal cancer (T3, T4 or N+) treated initially with concurrent capecitabine (800 mg/m2 twice daily for 5 days per week) and pelvic external beam radiation therapy (45Gy in 25 Fractions) after one week MRI for all patients; received intraluminal HDR-BT with 4Gy x 2 Fractions with one week interval for those had gross residual disease within 1cm of rectal wall and receiveed intraluminal and interstitial brachytherapy with 4Gy x 2 Fractions with one week interval for those had gross residual disease far from 1cm of rectal wall. All patients underwent surgery within 4-8 week after completion of neoadjuvant therapy. In the control group which were not randomized, twenty-eight patients underwent neoadjuvant chemoradiation (45Gy in 25 Fraction with concurrent capecitabine 800mg/m2 twice daily for 5 days per week) followed by surgery. It was found that in HDR-BT group pathologic complete response (pCR), pathologic partial response (pPR) and pathologic response rates (pCR+pPR) based on AJCC TNM staging for colorectal cancer were %35.7, %35.7, and %71.4 respectively. The pCR, pPR, and pRR were %25, %17, and %42 in the control group respectively. pCR, pPR, and pRR were improved with HDR-BT. However, only response rate improvement was statistically significant (p=0.031). There was no a statistically significant difference in the complications between the two groups (p > 0.05). So it can be concluded that HDR intraluminal with or without interstitial brachytherapy may be an effective method of dose escalation technique in neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy of locally advanced rectal cancer with higher response rate and manageable side effects.
—Melasma is a third most commonly cited skin disorders was pigmentary problem diagnosed most often, other two are post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and vitiligo. So this study was conducted on 500 cases of Melasma attending at skin OPD of Charak Bhawan, a hospital attached to SMS Medical College, Jaipur (Rajasthan) with the aim to study its clinical pattern. Severity of Melasma was assessed by MASI. It was observed from this study that centro-facial distribution was found most prevelent (52.2%) pattern of Melasma followed by Malar pattern. Although mean MASI scores was found 12.47±5.093 but majority (53.2%) of cases were of sever grade followed by moderate and mild grade of Melasma. Malar area was most affected area (99.8%) followed by forehead area and chin area. Variation of area affected with Melasma was found significant (p<0.001). It was also observed that darkness as well as homogenecity was significantly more at malar region than that of forehead and chin. So it was also be concluded from this study that Melasma cases who are attending at Skin OPD are having melasma lesion on malar region and of sever grade. Reasons for this observation is o be explored with further research.
Abstract— There is a dearth of research work and scarcity of availability of data on psychiatric morbidity among railway employees in India. Present hospital based observational descriptive study was carried out at medical OPD of Central Hospital of Northern Western Railway, Jaipur with the specific aims to study occupational attributes of common psychiatric disorders. Total 450 randomly selected individuals were screened for psychiatric morbidities by using Mini-international neuropsychiatric interview-PLUS. Psychiatric diagnosis confirmed by two psychiatrists separately using the ICD, 10th revision (diagnostic and research criteria). A self designed, pre-tested & semi-structured detailed Performa was used to elicit demographical and occupational attributes. Univariate analysis was carried out initially to identify risk factors. The data was analyzed in terms of descriptive statistics, Chi-square test and stepwise binary logistic regression by using SPSS and Primer Version ‘6’. Most common diagnosed psychiatric disorders were Neurotic, stress related and somatoform disorders (28%), followed by mood disorders (25.56%). Common Psychiatric Disorders (CPD) i.e. depression, anxiety and somatoform disorders were the most common diagnosed psychiatric morbidities (49.78%). Working in rotatory shifts, perceived problems related to shift duties and stress in the working environment, work experience more than 20 years and non-executive type job were observed as the occupational risk factors for common psychiatric disorders. The present observations suggest that there is scope for psychiatric intervention for the management of perceived stress at work place, problems related to shift duties and other occupational challenges.
Abstract—
Purpose: To evaluate the morphological changes of the Meibomian glands in patients with evaporative “dry eye” compared to normal subjects by in vivo laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM). To correlate these changes to the clinical observations and tear functions.
Methods: The study was based on trans-tarsal images of 30 normal and 30 diseased lids (patients with subjective complaints and objective symptoms of evaporative “dry eye”). Each participant was examined by in vivo LSCM (HRT3 Rostock corneal module). The results were compared to histological findings of normal or pathologically changed Meibomian glands.
Results: Patients with evaporative “dry eye” presented with destructive changes of the Meibomian glands as follows: occlusion of the lumen, impaired morphology of the acines, lack of normal structure and infiltration with inflammatory cells. Reported ocular surface and tear function abnormalities were correlated to the Meibomian glands dysfunction (MGD). In all cases the lid hygiene and anti-inflammatory treatment demonstrated tendency to restoration of the structure.
Cоnclusion: In vivo LSCM can effectively demonstrate the morphological changes of the Meibomian glands in patients with evaporative dry eye symptoms. This noninvasive technology is useful as a supplementary diagnostic tool for in vivo assessment of the histopathology of many ocular surface disorders and monitoring of the therapeutic effect in patients with MGD. Glandular acinar density and acinar unit diameter seemed to be promising new parameters of Meibomian glands in vivo confocal microscopy. The examination has the potential to change the evaporative dry eye treatment approach

Abstract— Spiritual or compassionate care involves serving the whole person i.e. physical, emotional, social, spiritual etc dimensions of health. Spirituality has now been identified globally as an important aspect for providing answers to many questions related to health and happiness. The World Health Organization is also looking beyond physical, mental and social dimensions of the health i.e. the spiritual health and its impact on the overall health and happiness of an individual. Spiritual commitment tends to enhance recovery from illness and surgery also. Spiritually is transpired both in order to comfort the dying and to broaden one's own understanding of life at its ending. Spiritual beliefs can help patients cope with disease and face death. So it should be necessarily be add-on in critical stage of disease. Nowadays in some of medical schools in developed countries has included as a curreculam of patient care. Now it is the time that all Medical Colleges should include educating their students about spiritual health care in comprehensive patient care. Medical Council of India should also take some action in this direction.
Abstract—Abnormalities that characterizes lipoprotein metabolism in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients, fasting concentration of triglyceride rich lipoprotein especially very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) are higher and those of HDL, commonly measured as HDL-c, are lower than among people without diabetes, which leads to increased triglyceride HDL-c ratio and insulin resistance. This type of diabetic dyslipidemia is a major cause of oxidative stress which promote and accelerate atherosclerosis and thus, end organ damage AMI. This present study was carried at the Central Clinical Laboratory MIMSR Medical College Latur, with the aim to find out the role of lipoprotein-triglyceride in myocardial infarction in NIDDM. For this study, patient with myocardial infarction with NIDDM were selected after admitting in MIMSR Medical College Latur. These 25 cases were included in study group and age-matched to these cases 50 healthy subjects were selected as Control group. The lipid profile and total serum lipid peroxides (malondialdehyde) of study and control groups were assessed & compared. It was found that in the control group mean values of total cholesterol was 180.21 ± 18.13 mg % whereas it was 229.21± 23.58 in study group, which was significantly higher in study group. Likewise, mean Serum Triglycerides and Serum Lipid Peroxides (MDA) of study group were also found significantly (p<0.001) higher that of control group (228.14 v/s 99.9 and 410.22 v/s 180.96 respectively). It was also revealed in this study that mean Serum HDL-Cholesterol was found significantly lower in study group whereas LDL-Cholesterol (28.72 v/s 53.83) and VLDL-Cholesterol were found significantly higher in study group that control group (150.61 v/s 106.60 and 46.30 v/s 19.8). So it can be concluded that AMI patients with NIDDM have higher Total Serum Cholesterol, Serum Triglycerides, Serum Lipid Peroxides (MDA), LDL- Cholesterol and VLDL- Cholesterol with lower HDL- Cholesterol.

Abstract—This study was aimed to present a case report of a case of peripheral ossifying fibroma which is a rare case. This case was a 30 years non smoker male with the chief complaint of growth of gum tissue, moderately large in the mandibular posterior region. On intraoral examination, a peduncalated growth of 17 x 12 x 6 mm on marginal and attached gingiva with respect to tooth number 47 considerably hard in consistency and movable was seen. The lesion was erythmatous having a smooth non ulcerated surface. It was asymptomatic with no sign of pain. Intra oral periapical radiograph was taken which revealed slight erosion of crest of bone which was later confirmed during surgical excision. The possible reason of crestal bone erosion may be constant pressure of the growth. Differential diagnosis of irritation fibroma, pyogenic granuloma and peripheral giant cell granuloma was considered. However, clinical appearance and consistency was of a hard fibrous growth, which therefore led to a provisional diagnosis of peripheral ossifying fibroma or peripheral odontogenic fibroma.
Papillary Hidradenoma is a rare benign tumor of apocrine glands. Very limited number of case reports are available in the literature detailing the cytological features of papillary hidradenoma. Such a rare case specimen came in notice here at Pathology Department of SMS Medical College, Jaipur (Raj.) India. So, one such a rare case of papillary hidradenoma was explored with its cytological findings. A 30 year old female presented with a vulval cyst. Fluid from this cyst was sent for cytology with a clinical diagnosis of Bartholin cyst. The cytology suggested it to be a benign adnexal tumour by the presence of Biphasic pattern of cell arrangement which was further confirmed histologically. So whenever an middle aged female presents with a nodular lesion in the anogenital area, hidradenoma papilliferum should be kept in mind along with other conditions.
This summary provides an overview of a retrospective study analyzing seasonal variation in cases of non-neonatal tetanus (NNT) over a 7-year period from 2004-2010 at a hospital in Jaipur, India. The study found that post-monsoon season had significantly more NNT cases than other seasons each year. Specifically, over one-third of total cases and deaths occurred in post-monsoon months of June-July and November-December. Additionally, winter season had the lowest number of cases but the highest case fatality rate of NNT. The study aims to better understand seasonal trends in NNT occurrence to help guide future elimination strategies.
Abstract—In the case of neurological disorders, patient autonomy is a fundamental principle which must be taken into consideration. In the case of this pathology, fluctuating mental deterioration is encountered most frequently in the case of mild forms of dementia. In the case of severe forms of dementia, the patient loses any autonomy and requires permanent medical care, as well as a permanent legal representative.
Aim of this study was to know autonomy of the patients with certain neurological disorders about ability of making decisions for their medical care.
Material and method: It is a quantitative retrospective observational study and data for which is gathered from the observation charts of 323 patients attended in either emergency or outpatient, between April to December 2006, in “Prof. Dr. Nicolae Oblu” Clinical Hospital of Emergency, Iasi, Romania. Study subjects were split into 2 groups: Group 1 (with a number of 215 cases) – a group of patients with the diagnostics of acute cerebrovascular accident, aphasia and dementia. Group 2 (with a number of 108 cases) – patients known or recently diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis and myasthenia gravis. Consent informed given by patient in the observation charts of above two groups was observed and number of patients who has given consent was compared in both the groups.
Results: On the cases under study, only for 13.6% of the patients of the first group there is consent informed in the observation chart, while for the patients in the second group this percentage was slightly smaller (9.3%).
Conclusions: As very few patients have given written informed consent and more sever the neurological disorder less the chances to have written informed consent by patients. So it can be concluded that medical performance brings indisputable benefits, however it should be done by a careful selection of the subjects and by following ethical principles.
Post-operative Wound Infection in Cases operated in a Tertiary Level Hospital Jaipur (Rajasthan) India-Wound infection is the second commonest nosocomial infection and most troublesome disorder of wound healing. This study was carried out on 100 post-operative cases of Surgical Unit 1st of General Surgery Department of Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Jaipur (Rajasthan) India in years 2014.
After interview of these, swab from post-operative wound was taken and sent for culture and sensitivity test in Microbiology. Results were inferred by Chi-square test and unpaired‘t’ test. Among all operative cases 21% were found infected. Cases, who were operated in emergency have significantly more post-operative wound infection. Mean age and mean postoperative stay of cases with post-operative infected wound was significantly higher than in cases without post-operative infected wound. But mean pre-operative stay, mean duration of operation and type of operation was not associated with post-operative wound infection. Pre-operative antibiotics lowered the occurrence of post-operative wound infection. Maximum proportion of causative agent found in post-operative infected wound was Staphylococci (90.48%) followed with Streptococci, E. Coli, Klebsella and Pseudomonas.
