52. SSC
» These exams are held to recruit officers in various
government verticals and ministries, which are not covered
by UPSC.
» SSC covers most of the group ‘B’ services, group ‘C’ services
and other posts in the ministries.
» Similar to the Civil Services Exam of UPSC, the prime exam
which covers major posts is the Combined Graduate Level
Exam.
» This exam has consolidated all the various individual exams
that were conducted by SSC before 2008.
» It conducts many examinations among which the Combined
Graduate Level Examination is the most sought after.
53. SSC
» UPSC offers less than 5,000 seats in all the examinations
conducted.
» Are these seats enough to cater to the masses?
» As the private sector in the country does not fill the gap
between supply and demand of jobs in the country, such
exams become very important for a large section of students.
» Thus, SSC becomes immensely important to offer stable jobs
to a large number of candidates.
» Close to 30,000 Central Government jobs are provided each
year.
» It also includes positions like CSS cadre which is a group ‘B’
service below administrative officers in the ministries.
