Security in Learning Management Systems: Designing Collaborative Learning Act...eLearning Papers
Authors: Jorge Miguel Moneo, Santi Caballé, Josep Prieto-Blázquez
The field of research on information technology applications in the design of computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) activities generates very complex scenarios which must be studied from different approaches. One approach is to consider information security, but not only from a technological point of view.

Many universities are realizing that the implementation and use of online learning tool become a competitive advantage to address the actual learning needs. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence users’ perceived ease of use of Webct an online learning tool. We administrated a questionnaire to undergraduate students from an university in Quebec, Canada. The results tend to corroborate that ease of comprehension and ease of navigation are the key factors which influence the perceived ease of use of WebCT. More specifically, the terms used in educational web applications must be as simple and relevant as possible. Jargon and technical terms in the wording of text used for links should be carefully avoided. This research is extending the finding of IT adoption studies by specifying what make an online tool easy to use.

The mobile phone has received global attention primarily as a personal consumer technology. However, we believe that mobile information technology in general will play a significant role in organisational efforts to innovate current practices and have significant economic impact. Enterprise mobility signals new ways of managing how people work together using mobile information technology and will form an integral part of the efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of information work. This belief is, however, not reflected in the current selection of books and collections exploring the issue of enterprise mobility. The aim of this paper is to highlight some of the key challenges in the application of mobile information technology to improve organisational efficiency. This is accomplished through comparing and contrasting findings from a selection of 11 empirical studies of enterprise mobility with information technology conducted between 2001 and 2007. The paper argues that the debate so far has largely failed to embed glowing accounts for technological potential in a sound discussion of organisational realities. In particular, there has been a lack of balanced accounts of the implicit and explicit trade-offs involved in mobilising the interaction between members of the workforce.

Videoconference System for Rural Education: Issues, Challenges, and Solutions...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
In this paper, we presented issues, challenges, and solutions of videoconference
system for rural education. First, we discussed several issues on the implementation of
videoconference system for education, particulary in rural area in Indonesia, which covered
videoconference requirement, rural condition, and education needs. Second, we presented
several challenges consisted of choosing videoconference technology, choosing compression
method, system and application development, ensuring quality of services, and ensuring quality
of experiences. Based on the issues and challenges, we proposed a solution of
videoconference system which is specifically deployed in rural education. The solution was
based on WebRTC technology implemented in Intel i5 core miniPC choosen to increase
portability of the system. A STUN server was built on Javascript to facilitate communication
between each client terminal. A simple and intuitive user interface was designed to facilitate the
use of application by rural people. The system was deployed at two elementary schools in
Cianjur, West Java, representing rural education in Indonesia. From the experiment, we
obtained video sent data rate 82 kbit/s, video received data rate 245 kbit/s, average delay 316
ms and packet lost rate 1.32%. The experiment results showed that the audio and video quality
can be accepted by users to implement distance learning.
Making a Pain-free Migration to Unified CommunicationsReadWrite
Every firm, company or enterprise with distributed data and voice networks is looking for ways to control costs and increase efficiency. To achieve these goals, businesses need to integrate both voice and data onto a single, converged network to reduce costs and improve productivity. A converged voice and data network is the foundation for Unified Communications (UC), which fosters productivity through mobility and collaboration. Mobile technology allows users to work smarter with simple, end-to-end solutions that combine time-saving communication tools that boost user performance, such as virtual private networks and wireless applications. UC also promotes effective collaboration by connecting people with the right resources the first time, thereby increasing productivity. This paper examines the value of UC applications, tools and technologies to provide guidance for pain-free migration to a more efficient and high-performance business environment.
The leading company in the field of automation for security and monitoring of the environments
has chosen Cisco technology to interconnect locations and subsidiaries internationally through a
communication architecture and integrated data collaboration with voice and video.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

3. Case Study
the university network; especially interface with our authentication structure and
authorization based on a LDAP directory service. Once the system was interfaced
with Active Directory, we did not need to install any more software nor did we need
specific licenses, unlike other solutions we evaluated during the scouting stage.”
That's a significant economic aspect that allows the University to simultaneously
pursue its own philosophy of using open source software as much as possible, thanks
to the total compatibility of Cisco tools. In the fourth quarter of 2012 the infrastructure
was completed with the implementation of the Telepresence WebEx component
in order to provide a more streamlined collaboration tool, not to mention that the
infrastructure is also used for sessions supporting the International Graduate Thesis,
various Masters and for provision of courses within some Research PhDs. Moroni also
highlights the flexibility of the architecture, which will further stimulate its use even by
those who, prior to the implementation, thought they didn’t need it. “The advantages
of a high definition and efficient Telepresence system such as this one will surely
generate scale economies and will allow cross-distribution to the whole organization.”
That technological partners, in this case PRES, and also more and more business
consultants for organizations choose innovation is now a given fact. It's no
coincidence that the broadly positive opinion of the project also extends to the
work PRES performed, which reciprocates the positive opinions in the value of its
experience. “We also consider the system conceived for Università Bicocca as
a success story,” confirms Christian Panigada, Key Account Manager for PRES.
“A project that enabled us for the first time to address this type of demand in an
academic setting of this scope and with a high level of internal skills. All this allowed
us to add to the organization's know-how in this sector, in order to create a winning
model for our activity.”
But the benefits will also cascade through the University. The use of Cisco
TelePresence architecture may not be limited only to internal use. Already classrooms
are requested and used by other Public Administration agencies, and it's possible that
a technology this innovative may become a new business model for Bicocca, which
could extend a video-conference service offered also to private users for remote
conferences and meetings.
