Casa Poporului, also known as the People's House, is considered the largest building in Romania and second largest in the world after the Pentagon. It was built by dictator Nicolae Ceausescu in the recent years of his dictatorship until he was killed during the 1989 Revolution. The building was never occupied before the Revolution and was constructed on top of a demolished hill that contained old houses, churches, and streets in Bucharest. Today, Casa Poporului is used by the Romanian Parliament and is seen as a symbol of Ceausescu's deep dictatorship and the immense sacrifice made to construct the massive building.
