Cartagena is a colonial city located in northeastern Colombia near the Caribbean coast. About 20 minutes from Cartagena is the town of La Boquilla, known for its relaxing beaches and local cuisine. Cartagena was named by Pedro de Heredia with the help of Catalina, an indigenous woman. Cumbia dancing is popular in the area, with men and women dressed in white traditional clothing dancing in a circle to music while holding candles.
