Agronomy is the application of science and technology to agriculture to improve crop quality and yields and address problems with pests, weeds, waste and resource management. Candidates with a 10+2 in science or a bachelor's degree in agriculture are eligible to study agronomy. Agronomists work to increase food production and may pursue careers in farm management, their own farms, or supply and service industries in the agriculture sector. Starting salaries for agronomists range from Rs. 84,000 to Rs. 120,000, increasing up to Rs. 240,000 with more experience. Several universities in India offer programs in agronomy.
