Distributed multiple constraints generalized sidelobe canceler for fully conn...Ecway Technologies
This paper proposes a distributed multiple constraints generalized side lobe canceler algorithm for speech enhancement in a wireless acoustic sensor network comprising fully connected microphone nodes. The algorithm is designed for reverberant environments with both desired and competing speakers. It obtains significant communication bandwidth reduction by performing local beamforming at each node rather than broadcasting all microphone signals. Each node processes its own microphone signals along with transmitted signals from other nodes. The generalized side lobe canceler form allows adaptation of the beamformer during non-speech segments and relaxes requirements of other distributed algorithms to re-estimate source positions after each iteration. Experimental results validate the theoretical analysis for both narrowband and wideband speech signals.

The system improves accuracy further by using a temperature sensor for temperature compensation of the ultrasonic measurements, making it suitable for distance monitoring applications in vehicles.
Scaling energy per operation via an asynchronous pipelineEcway Technologies
This document discusses statistical analysis showing a sharp reduction in the rate of energy efficiency improvements in processors over the last 30 years, forming an "asymptotic wall". The authors developed an energy model for asynchronous systems that accounts for scaling realities. Studies of an energy efficient asynchronous pipeline fabricated in 0.6 μm at sub-threshold showed 17 Giga Operations per Joule when fully pipelined, and simulations in a more modern 65 nm process projected a further order of magnitude improvement.

Capacitive seat sensors for multiple occupancy detection using a low cost setup
1. CAPACITIVE SEAT SENSORS FOR MULTIPLE
OCCUPANCY DETECTION USING A LOW-COST SETUP
ABSTRACT:
The Minibus public transportation sector and road safety remains a significant
challenge in Africa. We propose a low cost system to monitor the taxi industry and encourage
safe driving. A low cost capacitive proximity sensor for seat occupancy detection based on
the loading mode capacitive sensing technique is designed. The capacitive sensor uses a
single electrode to detect an occupant. We use ZigBee modules for a dynamic wireless
system integration where sensors can be added or removed without modifications. A
mathematical model of the capacitive sensor is developed and we determine the capacitance
on the sensor's electrode. The occupied capacitance is double the unoccupied capacitance.
Our results show that the proposed capacitive sensor can distinguish clearly between an
unoccupied and occupied seat.
