Camille Cauthen has lived in many cities and attended multiple schools before finding her passion for psychology at Las Positas College. She will now pursue a psychology degree at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Cauthen inspires others through her leadership with Young Life and her musical talents. Her experiences at Las Positas helped her discover herself and prepared her to complete her education elsewhere.
bascially this was an assignment done for my university but i later decided to share it with more people and let them keep going despite of whatever is the situation.
This is a rough draft for a speech I am giving to a group of adults of the non spiirtual nature. I welcome your feed back. There is irony, some wit and some common sense.

LIVERMORE-- After moving to five different cities, living in twelve different houses, attending
nine different schools and owning three different cars, Camille Cauthen has finally figured out
where she belongs.
Livermore has been her home for the longest amount of time, but now she is ready to
begin a new chapter in her life. That chapter starts in Chattanooga, Tennessee where Cauthen
will pursue her goals in psychology and her dreams of music and photography.
Camille Cauthen is a 21-year old who knows she made the right decision for her future
by going to Las Positas to get her general education before transferring to a four year school.
She wasn’t sure which career path she wanted to take, so she decided community college
was the best decision.
While attending Las Positas, she found her love for photography while continuing her
passion for music as well. However, while taking her general education classes she discovered
psychology and realized this was the path she wanted to take.
Cauthen is now transferring to University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the fall to
pursue a major in psychology. She said she needed a change from Livermore, but was happy to
have started at Las Positas before continuing her education elsewhere.
Like many students at Las Positas, Cauthen started school without a plan, but after
finding classes she enjoyed and finding herself along the way, she is ready to move on and
explore new opportunities.
Although, she wouldn’t be enjoying the hobbies of music and photography and wouldn’t
be pursuing psychology if it weren’t for her start at Las Positas.
Las Positas helped Cauthen realize that receiving an education is important no matter
what school you start at or how long it takes to get there. Cauthen said, “Education is an
opportunity that not everyone has.”
However she believes once you start something you should commit to it. Las Positas
holds students more accountable to being responsible for their own actions. “Las Positas has
definitely taught me to not be lazy,” said Cauthen.
College is important to Cauthen because it means a lot to her to make her family proud.
“I will be the fourth person in my family to attend college,” she said.
Cauthen has managed to keep up with her schoolwork and grades while still participating
in many extracurricular activities. Some of these activities include writing music, taking photos
and being a leader for Young Life.
Young Life has played a huge role in Cauthen’s life and she has benefited from the
lessons it has taught her. Cauthen is looked at as a role model by the girls she is a Young Life
leader for.
One of the girls in her group, Daniella Goode, a senior at Granada High, said, “Camille
has inspired me to never be afraid to go for things I want and to never give up. To not let
anybody or anything get in my way.”
2. Cauthen is also a leader for a group of senior high girls in Dublin. She enjoys being a
leader for Young Life because it gives her the chance to, “meet new people and make a
difference in their lives,” said Cauthen.
Young Life girl, Ariana Banda, a senior at Dublin High, said, “Camille inspires me daily.
She is talented and follows the path God has given her. She is very real and does not let anyone
else take away her joy.”
Both Goode and Banda expressed nothing but kind words about their Young Life leader.
These girls look up to Cauthen and she’s made an impact in their lives without even knowing it.
“She has impacted my view on life by making me realize everything I have and to help
me be thankful,” Banda said.
Inspiring these younger girls would not have been possible if Cauthen hadn’t been
attending Las Positas. She might not have taken on the role as a spiritual leader had she been
away at college.
Attending Las Positas made it possible to stay in Livermore and still frequently attend
church and become a leader and inspiration to these girls.
Another aspect of Cauthen’s life that makes her who she is today is music. Cauthen
started taking piano lessons when she was eight, but stopped after a year because she couldn’t
read music.
However, in her freshman year of high school she started playing the ukulele and when
she was sixteen she learned how to play guitar. From that moment on, Cauthen was constantly
playing the guitar.
In high school Cauthen also found a passion for writing poetry which eventually turned
into songwriting. Writing lyrics and playing guitar became the main focus for Cauthen until she
found photography.
Cauthen had never taken a photography class until attending Las Positas. However, she
still loved taking photos and self-taught herself most of what she knows now.
She posts some of her photography on her Instagram, although most of her photos and
also some writing can be seen on her blog at www.ohgotcha.com.
Cauthen still continues to pursue music with songwriting and singing. She hopes to show
off her talent to a bigger audience when she moves to Chattanooga.
Until she makes it big, her passion for singing, songwriting and mostly acoustic guitar
and fingerpicking can be heard on her sound cloud at www.soundcloud.com/kuhmile.
After a little over two years at Las Positas, it is time to say goodbye to her home in
Livermore and start fresh in a new city. Chattanooga will be Cauthen’s new home for at least the
next two years while she studies psychology at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
She made the decision to attend UTC after spending last summer there at a discipleship
program where she fell in love with the slow paced lifestyle and all the southern hospitality.
Cauthen’s bible study leader, Kelly Jonas said, “She inspires me to go after the dreams
that God has placed on my heart and not be afraid to take chances.”
3. Cauthen not only inspires others to take chances but she takes her own chances because
she is the one in control of her own life and future.
Cauthen will miss all the friends she has made while living in Livermore, the city she has
lived the longest in. But Chattanooga will just be a new stop to add to the never ending list. She
plans to travel to other cities once she’s graduated from school.
Once in Tennessee, Cauthen definitely plans to keep up her blog as well as her music
because both of these hobbies are a part of who she is and Cauthen said it’s a great way “to keep
in touch and stay connected with friends.”
Cauthen will miss Livermore but is happy to be moving on to a new chapter in her life.
She will bring the knowledge she has gained from community college with her to UTC.
“If I didn’t go to Las Positas,” said Cauthen, “I wouldn’t be the person I am today.”
