A close friend recently reminded me that I always wanted to ―play‖ school
when we were young. I would bring encyclopedias and assign reports (One for
me too!). I was having fun. Then, while attending college, my classmates
commented that I should be teaching. And while working in corporate
America, I gravitated towards training and coaching. It was my destiny. Ten
years ago, I took a volunteer position and internship as a teacher. The rest is
history. I am working my dream job. Actually, teaching doesn‘t seem like a
―job‖ to me. Some say that I seem to have a good time in the classroom.
Actually, I am having a GREAT time. Although encyclopedias have been
replaced by the Internet, one thing hasn‘t changed: I am having fun.
Hopefully, my students are too!

2. In March, 2004, Edwin D Follick was appointed the Director of Libraries at South Baylo
University. Upon receiving teaching and librarianship credentials and graduation from
library school [MS LS University of Southern California 1963] he has served in secondary
schools, junior colleges, and in several higher education venues. Both service in law
libraries, healing arts libraries, and theological settings have given him a basic perception of
instructional materials – now with a total of 45 years of experience in a number of learning
opportunities. Additionally, published articles have included subjects in higher education,
professional education, law, and religious social history. His work has been most rewarding
in helping to define the alternative healing arts to individuals and the public when serving as
a pastor and chaplain from time in the military and on the riverships of Europe through to
the present day service in alternative healing arts institutions. His endeavors in the status of

Library Hours: Monday to Friday—9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
The purpose of the university library is to welcome students, alumni, faculty, practitioners, and research scholars along
with casual users alike. The hope is that library patrons will find a quiet, peaceful, and useful place in the reading rooms,
conference rooms, and individual carrels for study, reflection, contemplation, and repose in the pursuit of knowledge.
The following is a brief description of the unfolding development and new construction.
The university library at California University of Management and Sciences has experienced
constant growth and upgrades from the founding of the institution. Initially on the second
floor of the building shared by South Baylo University, this library was transferred to the
Euclid location on the third floor with conference rooms along with a window view of Orange
County. After a few years the library was expanded by subsuming the space of an adjacent
classroom which did allow for much greater flexibility and effective usage.
The present expansion will move the university library to the first floor not only to
accommodatee the weight of additonal books in the core collection, but rather to provide more
convenient access and to focus the emphasis on contemporary learning which necessitates the
availability of research materials and databases as indispensable to graduate education.
Library materials for general use will be maintained in doubleback full height shelving with
special reference sources in counter high shelving along with a wall of computers addressing
database research. The new custom made wood shelving will offer a visual statement, and an
adjacent room will project an emphasis on integrative study with the walls lined with
materials presently in the book collection.
―I feel challenged with the amount of expertise and
professionalism the faculty has so far shown in the classes
I‘ve attended. For such a small school, now I know what it
means when they say ‗Big things come in small packages.‖
―I like Professor Augsburger‘s passion in teaching.
He even shares his personal business acumen in the
IT field. Talk about hands-on experience, this one is
the best!‖
―The staff are so nice and always available to help.
Kudos to student services, especially Mrs. Janet
Laurin, really awesome!‖ —

―CalUMS‘ ESL Program improved my English a whole

Thank you Ms. Allison (Paden).‖
evolving librarianship for the acupuncture profession does allow for a creative experience and a refined application as an
information specialist. His extensive efforts in the public educational milieu along with a number of appointments in the
alternative healing arts private school sector have been most useful in the development of learning materials valuable for health
practitioners. As a health practitioner himself conducting a practice for over thirty years, along with serving on national board
test committees for more than several years, give an element of experience that has afforded several lessons to be learned about
the evolving and transitional healing arts background so necessary for practitioners. These understandings have given invaluable
insight in library service at South Baylo University. Additionally, his teaching of medical jurisprudence in a doctoral level
healing arts institution plus teaching of health care law, business communications, and business law and ethics in a business
school setting have allowed a vision beyond the librarianship environment.
