The document discusses the use of simulation in various industries and contexts. It provides an overview of what simulation is, its advantages and disadvantages. Specific examples are given of companies in different sectors like financial planning, manufacturing, retail and oil that use simulation for purposes like product development, sales forecasting, research and development, and optimizing plant capacity. One case study describes how a simulation solution was developed for a client to improve sales team efficiencies through a simulated 18-month sales cycle competition. Metrics were tracked at each decision point to measure learning. The document also briefly explains the chemical process simulation software ASPEN Plus and how it is used for modeling, optimization and performance analysis of chemical plants.
El documento habla sobre la infraestructura tecnológica necesaria para el negocio electrónico, incluyendo conceptos como e-business y la evolución de las arquitecturas web. También menciona una tarea para el aula de apoyo virtual.

The slide, which occurred on Saturday morning, was triggered by heavy rainfall and reported to be about 25 m (80 feet) deep in some parts. In 2006 after a smaller landslide occurred on the north fork of the Stillaguamish River, millions of dollars were spent on regional mitigation measures. In 2010, a report commissioned by the county in order to be in compliance with federal regulations identified the hillside that collapsed Saturday outside of the community of Oso as particularly susceptible. FOSS on Government Policy, Industry Adoption, Campus Promotion and Community ...Richard Lin
The document discusses Richard Lin's presentation on the development of open source software in Taiwan over the past decade from the perspectives of government policy, industry adoption, campus promotion, and community development. It provides an overview of how the Taiwanese government, industry, schools and communities have increasingly embraced and supported open source. Richard Lin will discuss the challenges faced and results achieved regarding open source in each of these areas.
The document describes the early failures and rejections faced by many famous and successful individuals. This document discusses several storms that impacted Mexico in 2013, particularly Hurricanes Barbara and Manuel and Tropical Storm Ingrid. Manuel struck Acapulco as a tropical storm in September, causing widespread flooding and mudslides that led to over 80 deaths. Ingrid also hit Mexico at the same time, with the combined effects of the two storms leaving over 1 million people affected. Manuel later reformed over the Pacific and threatened to cause additional damage in northern Mexico. The document provides storm tracks and summaries of the impacts of the various storms.

In 2005, the USAID Global Health Bureau sponsored a Summer Seminar series on Knowledge Management. For Better Practices in Global Health. The Public Health Consequences of Disasters was presented by Eric Noji, M.D., M.P.H. Dr. Noji is a Senior Policy Advisor (Emergency Preparedness and Response) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Washington, D.C. He is an expert in disaster epidemiology and the author of the book, The Public Health Consequences of Disasters (Oxford University Press). The presentation summarized the development of disaster management and humanitarian assistance, focusing on epidemiological methods, accident prevention, and disaster mitigation. Dr. Noji provided case studies on natural disasters and technological accidents, and emerging public health challenges to show the evolution of disaster epidemiology. The complete series on disasters can be accessed at the following link: http://transition.usaid.gov/km/seminars/2005/0726.html
Forecast of the national oceanic and atmospheric administration from August to December 2013: 13-20 named storms with 7-10 becoming hurricanes. Presentation courtesy of Dr. Walter Hays, Global Alliance for Disaster Reduction
Typhoon Rammasun impacted the Philippines in mid-July 2014, bringing winds up to 160 kph to Rapu-Rapu island. It was then headed towards Manila, which caused evacuations of over 400,000 people. Fortunately, the eye of the storm shifted away from Manila, reducing damage. However, it still caused major impacts like downed trees, power outages, flooded streets, and 20,000 roofs being ripped off across other locations. Socioeconomic impacts included shut down functions in the capital, blocked roads from debris, damaged sea walls and bridges, and a closed airport.
The document discusses the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and subsequent challenges. It provides a timeline showing the earthquake killed 30,000, cholera outbreak in 2010 killed 8,000, and Hurricane Tomas in 2010 exacerbated problems. In 2013, disaster workers began leaving as cholera still lingered. The document calls for a concerted international effort to rebuild infrastructure, provide clean water, housing, and address Haiti's vulnerability to future natural disasters through engineering solutions.
This document discusses strategic management and provides examples to illustrate key concepts. It introduces the "Parable of John Smith" to explain strategy, though does not elaborate on the parable. It contrasts two views of firm behavior - the economist view which sees structure determining conduct and performance, versus the strategist view which sees conduct determining structure and winning. It categorizes firms as rule makers, rule takers, or rule breakers based on their size and profitability. Finally, it outlines the characteristics of strategic, administrative, and operational decisions within firms and provides examples of strategic decisions and their attributes.

Business cycles have four phases: expansion, peak, recession, and trough. Expansion is a period of economic growth where output, employment, and income rise. At the peak, the economy reaches full employment and inflation rises. The recession follows as output declines. The recession bottoms out at the trough, where there is a general reduction in economic activity. Theories of business cycles include endogenous theories related to monetary policy, investment, consumption, and psychology, as well as exogenous theories concerning external factors like wars.
