The sources and nature of financing available to businesses are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Public debt issuances,
subordinated debt markets, mezzanine debt facilities and equity participation, with or without an IPO, represent some of the
options. Complex questions have arisen pertaining to such facilities, particularly during a time of financial crisis. What happens
when businesses are confronted with financial difficulties? Who are the creditors? What are their interests? And how will
those interests impact a restructuring? The answers to these questions, and various financing solutions will be explored.

Where Business Meets Pleasure

11:15 am Session 8 I Breakout
           F. The Importance Of Government Lobbying (English)
           Richelieu C
           Jean Bazin, Fraser Milner Casgrain
The insolvency and restructuring profession is affected by government policy and legislation and it is therefore vital that,
as a professional body, we remain relevant to those championing for legislative reform, including political decision-makers
within Parliament. Understanding the rules and limits surrounding political strategy and lobbying are essential. Mr. Bazin will
discuss why being positioned as a thought leader, impartial voice of reason and credible resource is central in the context of
           government policy making.

Product recalls, environmental discharges, employee lay-offs, strategic acquisitions and divestitures are business
occurrences that require an effective and cohesive strategic communications plan. Mr. Boucher will discuss why positioning
an organization to mitigate the negative impact of a crisis, and conversely capitalize on positive events is vital to managing
a corporate brand image and public opinion.

           François Viau, Gowlings
Jurisprudence is a continuous catalyst for evolving legal principles and it is crucial that the implications are understood,
including how this can impact a practice. Mr. Viau will discuss recent developments and case law related to both mid-market
