The document defines three types of sentences: compound sentences containing two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction; complex sentences containing one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses joined by a subordinating conjunction; and compound-complex sentences containing two independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.
