The fossil fuel combustion from vehicles has
been identified as the largest cause of air
pollution in the world. According to the Union
of Concerned Scientists, transportation caused
over half of the carbon monoxide, over a third
of the nitrogen oxide and almost a quarter of
the hydrocarbons in the atmosphere by 2006.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) threshold of
90 micrograms of pollutants per cubic meter.

Quezon City with 144 micrograms.

17. OUR 2ND PROBLEM: FUEL COST
• As of MARCH, 2012 net increase for gasoline and diesel stood at P5.85 a
liter, and P3.20 a liter, respectively.
• As of AUGUST 20, 2012, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. and Total
Philippines have jacked up raised prices of premium gasoline by P1.80 per
liter, regular gasoline by P1.70 a liter effective Monday morning, while
independent player Eastern Petroleum also implemented a similar price
hike effective (Tuesday). Other oil companies are expected to follow suit,
but have not issued their respective advisories as of press time.
