7. The Main Components of a
Business Letter
O Date : current date written out as month, day,
and complete year
O Inside Address: name and address of the
business to whom you are writing
O Salutation: you use the same name you
used in the Inside Address – using Dear
Mr./Mrs./Ms./Miss
O Body: message of the letter
O Complimentary Closing: letter’s goodbye –
using phrases such as Yours truly and yours
Sincerely
O Signature: writer's handwritten signature
O Writer’s Identification: writer’s typed name
and address

O There are two common formats for
the business letter:
1. Full-block form.
2. Semi-blocked form.
11. Full-block form:
O Full block form– date ,inside address,
Body, complimentary closing and
signature begin at left hand margin.
O open punctuation is used in this form.

O Semi-block form - date , inside address
, complimentary closing and all body
paragraphs indented of five spaces.
O Close punctuation is used in this form.

There are two types of letter punctuation
that are acceptable in business:

punctuation after the heading , Date ,
