Bus bars are metallic strips or bars housed inside switchgear, panel boards, and bus way enclosures that distribute high electrical currents locally. They connect both high voltage equipment at switchyards and low voltage equipment in battery banks. Bus bars are generally uninsulated and stiff enough to be supported in air by insulated pillars, allowing tapping at various points without new joints and sufficient cooling of the conductors.
