4. OBELISK The Obelisk of Buenos Aires is a National Historic Landmark icon of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Located in the Plaza of the Republic, at the intersection of avenues Corrientes and 9 July, was built to commemorate the fourth centenary of the first foundation of the city.
5. THE CATHEDRAL It rises above a high drum, the deep chancel, under which is the Pantheon of the Canons, in which lie the dignitaries of the Cathedral-ends in a straight front wall.
6. PIRAMIDE DE MAYO Francisco Cañete, began work on April 6 and ended on 24 May. It was a modest obelisk of adobe cooked, nearly fifty feet high, surrounded by a simple fence.The monument was inaugurated on May 25, 1811, the first of four days of festivities, which included dances and charades, drawings, manumission of slaves and illumination of nearby buildings.
