WebecomeaSuperhero...
writes adult Brian Cardoza in a letter to his six year old self
...Wearemightylittleone. Andwearebrave.
In his soon to be released book The Unexpected Victim, Brian
Cardoza tells his story of recovery from repeated childhood
sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Now an inspirational
speaker, author, and artist, Brian gives a strong voice to the
unspeakable topic by challenging the stigma and shame often
faced by survivors of abuse.
Featured in a number of national and international projects
including the EU documentary Forced, Promise Place's
documentary Ripple Effects, The BristleCone Project, and
Huffington Post's HuffPost Live segment for Child Abuse
Awareness Month, Brian is also a certified OVC TTAC
Consultant and RAINN Speaker and a contributing poet for
Purple Sparks.
"Don't let this moment dictate the next moment" is Brian's
motto that inspires his audiences of victims, survivors,
volunteers, and professionals who are focused on conquering
abuse. He is available to speak for conferences, classes, and
seminars that offer help or creative therapy to those in need.
Presentation Topics
Brian's topics speak to the painful and difficult issues of
abuse. The lessons shared are emotionally charged and
yet Brian leaves his audiences uplifted, knowing that he
has triumphed and that they can, too.
AIR: Arts Influence Recovery
Brian’s first attempt to communicate his abuse to others
was by drawing it on paper. Expressing the torments
through his voice of colors and designs helped him heal.
Now he motivates and instructs others to find their healing
through creative expression.
Victim, Survivor, Thriver
His torment started at age six and stays with him today.
The difference is that now it has little power over him.
Brian’s triumph and perspective ignites audiences to move
forward and do the same in their own lives.
Becoming the Dandelion
“Why are we ignoring the bravest of all species?” Stronger
than a bear, more courageous than a lion – behold the
power of the Dandelion! This resilient and adaptable plant
broadcasts bravery and symbolizes courage for the
disrespected. Brian calls for survivors to become like the
dandelion.
From One Moment to the Next
In one second, Brian realized that a life of prison, drugs,
and alcohol was no longer an option. By exposing his
greatest failures and how he learned to move through
them, Brian delivers a message of acceptance, hope, and
action.
Writing The Unexpected Victim
Feeling called to tell his story, Brian Cardoza thoughtfully
chose to reveal the monster that tortured him by writing his
book The Unexpected Victim. In doing so he sacrifices his
privacy, his family, and his security. Listen as Brian
explains that the shame associated with sexual abuse can
reach a point where it no longer exists inside; and you
begin to heal.
