You need to take good care of yourself after your breast enhancement surgery.
Irrespective of the breast implants you have chosen, saline or silicone, for your breast
augmentation, the post surgery recovery process and time is more or less the same. For
the surgeon to monitor the post-op conditions of the patient, they need to stay at least for
a few hours, in the post-op recovery room.
Patients who have undergone breast augmentation surgery can return home the
very same day. However, breast augmentation combined with any other surgical process
may require an overnight stay at the hospital. After their discharge from the hospital, it is
up to the patients to carefully adhere to post-op recovery instructions, which are as
follows:
• Soreness and swelling are a common occurrence after the surgery. These can be
reduced by applying ice packs on the affected areas.
• You need not be concerned about the scars as they tend to fade away over a
period of time although not completely.
• You may be asked to wear a support garment (bra) after the surgery at least for a
few weeks, in order to help the breasts heal completely and to provide support.
• Proper sleep is a must as sleep deprivation significantly slows down the process
of healing. In order to speed up the healing process, you should sleep more in the first 1
or 2 weeks after the surgery. A heating pad should be kept handy for alleviating back
discomfort caused by excess sleeping.
• Medications, as prescribed by the surgeon, should be sincerely followed. As some
of the medicines are likely to cause nausea, maintaining a healthy diet and drinking lots
of water will help solve the problem.
• You should remain cautious about post-op symptoms such as redness or
inflammation of the breasts, fever, hot breasts or any kind of infections and flu like
symptoms.
What to Avoid After Breast Augmentation
Drinking alcohol and smoking should be strictly avoided until completely healed, as it
may interfere with the medications you are taking.

medications may interfere with your healing process.
