Ted Wernham: Benefits of Critical Illness InsuranceTed Wernham
Ted Wernham discusses two benefits of critical illness insurance: 1) It provides peace of mind by helping avoid financial strain from a serious health diagnosis through a lump sum payout. 2) Most policies offer coverage from $10,000 to $30,000 for conditions like cancer or heart attacks, with an additional $5,000 for any recurrence within 180 days. 3) A critical illness rider provides an accelerated benefit if the insured experiences one of 16 covered critical illnesses.
4) A chronic illness rider provides an accelerated benefit if the insured is unable to perform daily activities or has severe cognitive impairment.

The document discusses the importance of critical illness insurance. It notes that about 5.5 million people suffer from heart attacks each year, many with permanent disabilities. If critically ill, savings can be depleted by medical costs, burdening family with debt and draining retirement funds. Critical illness insurance provides tax-free payouts immediately upon diagnosis of a covered condition, allowing funds to be used flexibly like paying a mortgage, supporting family needs, or funding education. The document advocates for critical illness insurance over simply reducing wealth to protect against financial hardship from serious health problems.
Planning for Unexpected Finances | Adam Tau Adam Tau
The document discusses planning for unexpected large financial risks such as market volatility, death, injury or illness, legal issues, outliving savings in retirement, and needing long-term care. It recommends diversifying investments, having life insurance to replace lost income from death, disability insurance to replace lost income from injury or illness, liability insurance for legal issues, annuities to guarantee retirement income, and long-term care insurance to cover expensive long-term care costs. Having insurance for these unexpected risks can provide financial protection and peace of mind.
Todd Mardis argues that everyone needs a power of attorney. Statistics show that 25% of people under age 65 and 79% of all people will experience at least temporary incapacity at some point. A power of attorney appoints a trusted person to manage an individual's financial, medical, and legal affairs if they become incapacitated, to ensure continuity. It is a legal document that assigns an agent authority over a principal's affairs when they are no longer able to do so themselves. A power of attorney can be general or specific, and takes effect either immediately or upon incapacity.
Long term care insurance provides coverage for services needed by those who require assistance with daily living due to chronic illness, aging, or disability. It has grown rapidly in recent years due to an aging population and the rising costs and changing structure of family support systems. Long term care insurance helps preserve independence and financial security by covering the costs of care services received at home or in facilities. It provides protection against the high and rising costs of long term care that would otherwise be financially draining if not planned for.
The document discusses final expense planning and funeral pre-planning. It notes that 34% of Americans aged 50+ have preplanned their own funeral and 24% have prepaid some funeral expenses. It then outlines common options for paying for a funeral such as life insurance, savings, loans, or relying on family, but notes a better option is a funeral expense trust. The trust allows prefunding of funeral costs and protects the funds from creditors or consideration for Medicaid eligibility. The document provides an overview of average funeral costs and how an irrevocable funeral trust works to prepay costs and avoid probate.
This document discusses risk and its impact on society. It defines risk as uncertainty about potential losses and explores objective versus subjective risk. Common types of insurance include life, health, vehicle, home, and business insurance. The document provides contact information for an insurance company and links to their social media profiles.
The document discusses why pursuing compensation is important for traumatic brain injuries (TBI). It notes that TBI can cause serious, long-lasting complications due to injuries to the brain from blows or jolts to the head. Pursuing compensation can help pay for the extensive medical treatment often required, which can include hospitalization, surgeries, medications, and long-term rehabilitation. It can also account for costs like lost wages during recovery and pain and suffering due to the physical and mental effects of the injury. The document encourages those who suffered a TBI from negligence to contact a law firm to pursue compensation to assist with the significant financial burden of care and recovery.

IH - Traumatic Brain Injury - A Primer for In-House Counsel and Claims Profes...Brandon Woodard
The document discusses the rise of traumatic brain injury (TBI) litigation, specifically concussion claims. It notes that while TBIs were traditionally associated with professional athletes, they now commonly spawn from car accidents, falls, and other incidents. Plaintiffs can easily add a concussion claim to any injury case since concussions are difficult to objectively prove or disprove, unlike broken bones seen on X-rays. It also outlines how plaintiffs and their experts seek to maximize damages from concussion claims by alleging long-term disability and risks of conditions like Alzheimer's, despite most concussions resulting in full recovery. The document provides guidance for defense attorneys on effectively challenging TBI claims.

11 Factors that determine the value of an Seattle personal injury caseSeattlePersonalInjury
In the early stages of a case, it is just about impossible for a Seattle personal injury lawyer to determine the potential value of the case with any certainty; there are too many unknowns. However, certain constants that run through every case, and your personal injury attorney can rely on these in estimating what your case is worth. Regardless of how you were injured, the following eleven factors will have a significant impact on the value of your claim
Medical malpractice insurance premiums are rising significantly each year, threatening the sustainability of the healthcare system. The high costs are due to a flawed legal system that allows for exorbitant pain and suffering awards in medical malpractice lawsuits, even in cases where doctors followed appropriate standards of care. While insurance companies seek caps on awards, they resist limits on premium increases. Doctors are forming cooperatives to gain more control over rising costs, but remain vulnerable to large awards. Reform is needed to ensure a fair process and reasonable compensation for valid claims.
Critical illness insurance is a source of funds you can use to help cover the indirect costs that arise when a
serious illness strikes. By providing money when you need it most, upon diagnosis of a serious illness (as
defined in the policy), critical illness insurance can help relieve worry about your finances so that you can focus
on getting well.
Critical illness insurance pays you a lump sum of money upon diagnosis of a covered condition. This money is
yours to use for any purpose, with no restrictions. For example, critical illness insurance proceeds can be used
to pay:
* Mortgage or rent payments, as well as any other bills you may have;
* Health insurance deductibles, coinsurance and/or co-payments;
* The costs of receiving out-of-network medical treatment, including possible travel and lodging expenses;
* Treatments not covered by traditional health insurance;
* Child care expenses during treatment or hospitalization;
* Modifications to your home or vehicle; and/or
* Shorter-term home health care.
Since the premiums paid for critical illness insurance are not tax deductible, the benefits are not considered as
income and are received 100% free of income tax.

The document discusses how a Wellington accident lawyer considers collateral source payments and different categories of injuries when determining a personal injury claim amount. It explains that collateral source payments from entities other than the defendant, such as insurance, may reduce the claim amount awarded. It also outlines various categories of "hard injuries" like broken bones, head injuries, wounds, and spinal injuries that would qualify for higher compensation than soft tissue injuries due to longer recovery times and impact. The lawyer's role is to evaluate the injuries and consider these factors and the law to determine a fair claim amount.
This document provides an overview of different types of personal insurance products and tips to help avoid common mistakes. It discusses life insurance, total and permanent disability insurance, income protection insurance, trauma insurance, and business expenses insurance. This document summarizes and promotes critical illness insurance. It describes how such insurance provides financial protection for people diagnosed with serious illnesses by paying lump sums that can be used flexibly. The summary highlights that critical illness rates are increasing in the US, that most health insurance does not cover all costs of treatment and recovery, and that critical illness insurance helps allow patients to focus on recovery rather than financial stresses. It also shares one example of a policyholder who received benefits to pay medical bills following a brain tumor diagnosis.

This document discusses the high costs of medical bills in the United States and how most Americans lack sufficient savings to cover unexpected expenses. Over half of Americans do not have enough savings to cover a $1000 medical bill or car repair. Medical bills are the leading cause of personal bankruptcies, even for those with health insurance. While health insurance covers direct medical costs, it does not cover indirect costs like lost wages. The best choice to protect against these costs is supplemental accident and health insurance that pays benefits directly to policyholders.

3. Suffering a brain injury as a result of any accident is a huge thing to deal with. This is mainly
because brain injuries are complex and are not as obvious as other types of injuries may be. The
same is true when it comes to dealing with brain injury cases; unlike other types of injury cases
brain injury cases are complex and are just as costly for victims. There are generally two categories
of damages that can be sought to make an individual whole who has suffered from a brain injury -
these are categorized as economic and non-economic damages.
As shown from the name, economic damages basically have to do with any financial consequences
that an injury may have on the individual. This includes medical bills, lost income and any other
direct costs of an accident or injury. However, non-economic damages are a bit on the abstract
side. This is mainly because it is hard to put a price on having a chronic headache for 10 months.
One attorney commented, “The term non-economic damage is a term used in the legal community
in reference to loss that an individual suffers but cannot directly be quantified into monetary terms.
For example, trying to quantify the pain or suffering of an individual. Unfortunately, there is no
equipment that has been invented to measure an individual’s pain or suffering. With regards to non-
economic damages an attorney basically looks at precedent and the real impact the brain injury has
on the lives of their clients in order to determine the associated damages.” However, it must be
noted that when an individual lives with debilitating pain or suffering there are clear financial
consequences that result. Some examples of non-economic losses include pain, depression,
anxiety and post-traumatic stress; these all result in creating major implications on the lives of
accident victims. One article stated, consider “two common and closely connected non-economic
damages: pain and depression. Chronic pain is a major cause of depression and depression in turn
makes pain worse. It is a vicious cycle that places a tremendous burden on sufferers, workforces
and the healthcare system. Depression in the United States costs approximately $210 billion per
year.”
4. Depression stemming from a brain injury can lead to many other negative health outcomes such as
diabetes, hypertension, cancer and cardiovascular disease; all of which conditions are expensive to
treat and carry their own financial consequences.
It is important to note that attorneys know how much is commonly requested in non-economic
damages. While they use precedents, they do not rely on them entirely at the expense of their
client’s individual needs. By hiring a skilled accident lawyer, who knows their way around brain
injury cases, this increases the amount of compensation in accordance with the uniqueness of the
injured individual. In addition, it is important to realize that not all cases go to trial where juries
determine the outcome of the individual’s compensation, in some instances matters are resolved by
way of settlement.
