Brad Lawlor
OVERVIEW
I am currently studying the BPTC at BPP Law School(Holborn).Through my legal studies and voluntary work I
have become passionate about social justice and I would like a career where I can help vulnerable people in our
legal system.

ACHIEVEMENTS
 Recipient of the Peter Carter prize (highest law degree results at Wadham College 2014)
 Recipient of a Gibbs book prize (one of the best overall performance in examinations in Contract, Tort, Land
and Trusts in the Final Honour School of Law in Trinity term 2014)
 Recipient of the Astbury Scholarship from Middle Temple.
 Won a LRMSP Moot against a team from Hertford College and received the highest individual speaking
mark.
 Secondary School Leavers’ Prize for Academic Performance.
ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Present:
 Tutoring: I tutor students three times a week in subjects ranging from KS2 English to GCSE Mathematics.
I have consistently received the highest feedback possible from each of my students.
 BLAC Family Law Unit: As a volunteer for this pro-bono project, I interview clients on prospective
family law claims and then advise them, in the form of a letter, of the next steps available to him and any
particularly advice they may have requested.
 Article 8 ECHR Project:I volunteer for this project which seeks to make legal representation on behalf of
illegal immigrants using Article 8 arguments. As part of this project, I interview clients, sort and file all
relevant information, draft and send letters of request and help construct legal arguments.
 BPP Student Voice Representative:I was elected as the BPP Student Voice Representative and sit on
one of the highest Academic committees where I express the students’ perspectives on key academic and
educational issues. I am in regular contact with the student body and utilize a range of methods to gather
opinions to present at the committee meetings.
 Mooting: I regularly compete in i moots such as the BPP moot. I am due to take part in the Middle Temple
moot. This year I participated in an international moot which required knowledge of both the French
language and the French legal system. (2010-present)
Previously:
 Administrative Assistant:I worked at the University of Birmingham as an administrative assistant and
dealt particularly with the handling of sensitive information. (June 2014-September 2014)
 Mooting:I regularly competed in inter-collegiate moots at Oxford. I participated in an international moot
which required knowledge of both the French language and the French legal system.
 Kids Adventure Oxford: I helped supervise days out for children from difficult backgrounds which has
allowed me to develop both my abilities to lead a team as well as the interpersonal skills required to
communicate with vulnerable people. (2010-2013)
 Access:I provided tours of Wadham College to students from my secondary state school. I also gave
speeches there,encouraging prospective applicants to apply to Oxford.
 Trampolining: I represented Wadham College in severalinter-college trampolining competitions.
 St Mary’s Parish Center:I led group activities for children who attended the local parish. (2009-2012)
 Acorn’s Charity Shop: I was responsible for serving customers, the presentation of the merchandise and
management of the shop floor. (2009-2010)
LEGAL WORK EXPERIENCE
Mini Pupillages
Red Lion Chambers:I spent a week following a criminal barrister involved in a week long case at Snaresbrook
Crown Court. I was able to witness a case from beginning to end and receive invaluable advice on constructing an
effective defence case. (October 2014)
25 Bedford Row: I was able to follow a series of criminal barristers and took an active role in cases ranging from
taking statements from witnesses to discussing the practicalities of a criminal trial.(September 2013)
I also spent a week shadowing Jo Sidhu QC who was involved in a high profile murder case (September 2014)
15 NewBridge Street: I was able to pursue my passion for criminal law and following a series of criminal
barrister for a week allowing me to gain a fuller understanding of the role of a criminal barrister (September 2013)
Essex Court Chambers: I decided to pursue a mini pupillage in the commercial sector so I would have a more
holistic comprehension of what the job entails ; I drafted various legal documents and was present at several
interviews with clients. (August 2013)
Keating Chambers:As part of the Social Mobility Foundation, I was able to shadow a barrister for a week which
allowed me to learn more about the functioning of a barristers’ chamber from the drafting of legal documents to the
interpersonal skills required to deal with clients. (July 2010)
