Quality Philosophy  2015‐03 
 
 
1. Do it right the first time and safely:  per Drawing – Spec – Code – PO 
1.1. We always seem to have time to do things over but never the time to do it right the first time 
1.2. Quality’s main focus is compliance, not delivery and due dates 
1.3. Safety at all times 
2. Commitment to quality 
2.1. Training – invest in your greatest commodity – your employees 
2.2. Auditing – finding out what your employee’s, contractor’s and supplier’s don’t know and work with them  
2.3. Lessons Learned from previous projects ‐ then to actually apply these lessons learned 
2.4. Corrective Action, Continuous Improvement, Root Cause Analysis – ensure problems do not become systemic  
3. Meet or Exceed client quality requirements and expectations 
3.1. Residual work – make the client come back to you 
4. Ask when you don’t know & confirm when you do know 
4.1. The only dumb question is the one you don’t ask – asking shows you care about doing things right 
5. Teamwork – support – being on the same page  
5.1. Cooperation – Coordination  ‐ Collaboration – Communication ‐  Corroboration – Confirmation ‐ Continuation 
6. Proactive, not reactive – experience – learning from previous mistakes 
6.1. Foresee potential problems and make suggestions or changes to avoid them or navigate them efficiently 
7. Thorough – Knowledgeable – Prepared  
7.1. PO – Spec – Code – Drawing review 
7.2. Efficiency  ‐ the more we know and perform our duties in a compliant manner – the better we get – increased production 
8. Sustainability 
8.1. Consistency – uniform results in compliance with codes – standards – specifications ‐ procedures 
8.2. Reproducibility – achieve repeatable results by performing tasks efficiently 
8.3. Proficiency – expertise, performing at a high level  
9. DIME:  Ability to Develop–Implement‐Monitor‐Evaluate practices/procedures 
10. Ability to interface, understand, resolve and disseminate 
11. Listen & Learn – to always be receptive ‐  listen & learn from others  
12. Available – to be accessible outside normal working hours 
13. Stand your ground when no one else will 
13.1. Form‐Fit‐Function considerations must also be considered & communicated to the appropriate authority ‐ engineer 
14. Trust, but verify – be ethical with integrity 
15. Compliance ‐2 ways 
15.1. Comply with PO‐Spec‐Code‐Drawing requirements 
15.2. Obtain a deviation or exception from Engineering (Project Management) – formally and in writing 
16. Are you getting what you paid for?  Treat your client’s money like your own 
17. When asked why I am a good fit for a position, my answer is always:  I Care
