His is 40 years old and his wife is 38 years old. They got married 16
years ago and since then they are selling in labour Chowk and making
their living.
They are from Bihar and now settled here to earn a living. They came
here with the help of one of their relatives and since then they are
working here.
He had no work when he shifted here. Relatives gave him some money
to start the business and then after it took off he returned the money
and became independent.
7. Routine
He wakes up at 5am. Finishes his morning work like bathing, washing
and praying by 6am. He lives in a small room near labour Chowk. All
four members lives in the same room. Apart from the room, it has one
kitchen (Very small) and one washroom.
He after doing all his morning work, he takes his breakfast and then he
starts to prepare for his work. He sells pani puri and chaats so he has to
prepare his stuff every day in advance before going to the market to sell
his pani puri. Its takes him usually 2-3 hrs to prepare for his material.
The shop/ places where he sells is 2 kms from his home. He usually
walks and it takes him around 20mins to reach the place.
8. Routine
He is assisted by his mother and wife to prepare all the material, which he
is supposed to sell that day. His mother a day before prepares raw material
when he is in the market selling his stuff.
He sells his dishes outside a shop on his cart in labour Chowk. He pays 5000
per month to the shopkeeper to allow him to sell his dishes outside his
shop. He keeps some of his material inside his shop and his cart at the end
of the day.
He packs his lunch while leaving from home itself and has it during the
daytime around 2pm with tea from the nearby stall and again some snacks
and tea during the evening time.
He leaves the place by 9pm and reaches his home at 9.30pm. By 10 he
finishes of his dinner with his family and by 10.30 he goes to bed and sleep.
9. Menu of the BOP Entrepreneur
Menu
Alu Tikki
Alu Tikki Chat
Pani Puri
Ragila Chat
Tikki Burger
He purchases all his raw material from the same market itself as he has
developed his contacts and get good products at cheap prices.
Also it is very convenient for him to buy stuff from nearby places and
also in cases of emergencies he can quickly grab the products without
delay.
10. Customers
His customers are the people who come out for shopping and want to have
a quick snack or they want something sweet & spicy.
These customers are the ones who are not really health because the place
where he is located in the market is having lot of dust and germs. In
addition, he prepares / fries some items in open environment so dust
directly falls onto the food.
Therefore, some people might not be interested to eat that food. In
addition, the food is quite oily and deep-fried so again a no from health
conscious people.
11. Pricing & Income
Pricing
Every item from his cart costs Rs 10.
This is targeted to people who cannot afford costly food and
want to have a quick cheap snack outside while buying daily
household stuff.
Income
His monthly income after removing all the expenses is around
10,000/- per month on an average.
All the transactions are cash based only.
Don’t use PAYTM or any other mode of digital payments
12. Managerial Implication
He borrowed money and started the
work. He is now contributing to the
economy so start small but start.
BoP has lot of potential just need a
helping hand to start the things
By just selling at Rs10 each item he
is supporting a family of 4 in a
place like Delhi-NCR so by targeting
the low strata of customers also
you can make big impacts.
Considering the fact that he is
making quite a good amount of
money by selling very small items .
This shows the fact that how much
potential BOP has.
