Started a consulting group, Sea of Islands Consulting, of culturally based
evaluators and researchers in the Pacific. Current projects include an
evaluation for Kamehameha Schools nursing pathways and
entrepreneurship collaborative, grant writing for the Polynesian
Voyaging Society, and research and evaluation for the Polynesian
Voyaging Society. Duties include administration, contracting, finances,
reporting, research, and project management.
GRANT WRITER & EVALUATOR
Wrote and received million dollar Native Hawaiian language grant from
the Administration of Native American Affairs. Worked on additional
grant identification, program development, and grant writing. Created
evaluation framework for ANA Native Hawaiian men’s health grant.
Wrote culturally based surveys and analyzed data.

Consultant for Kameahemeha Schools to conduct a longitudinal program
evaluation with Native Hawaiian Charter Schools. Analyzed qualitative

Principal investigator for first program evaluation of 12 Native Hawaiian
Charter Schools in Hawaii. Built community-research partnerships,
wrote literature review, wrote surveys, conducted quantitative and
qualitative analysis. Ran focus groups and community-participatory
action research. Culminated in doctoral dissertation. Received federal
SAMHSA grant funding. Created a new scale and published.

The (Re)Generation Project
RESEARCHER/WRITER/EDITOR
Collected over 600 stories, poetry and artwork from recent college
graduates. Conducted literature reviews, edited final submissions, and
co-wrote chapter introductions focused on developmental issues.
Published book The (Re)Generation Project with Tarcher/Penguin-
Putnam in 2003.

Spent two months researching Cuban children’s books, and interviewing
prominent writers and publishers in Spanish. Wrote literature reviews
and conducted qualitative analysis of interviews. Wrote an award-
winning one hundred and fifty page undergraduate thesis.

PROJECT COORDINATOR/TUTOR
First higher education program initiated in Pukapuka. As
sole employee, tasks include community organizing,
teaching and career counseling on-island for sixty youth
aged 16-30. Program includes restarting island youth
group, work placements, running courses (chanting, local
massage, computers) and cultural revitalization. Started a
native woodworking and canoe-making program. In
Rarotonga, started community adult education program.
Put together 35 community education courses and a tertiary
plan for all outer islands.

Program focuses on increasing the number of Native Hawaiian students in the health and science fields. AUGUST 2012 Honua Consulting Honoulu, Hawai’i RESEARCHER Mediation contract with NOAA for Native Hawaiian community input on a Monk Seal Conservation Plan. Worked with Honua Consulting running focus groups on all 6 Hawaiian islands, conducting qualitative analysis and writing a final report. SPRING 2010 Kamehameha Schools, Public Outreach Division Honolulu, HI RESEARCHER Consultant for Kameahemeha Schools to conduct a longitudinal program evaluation with Native Hawaiian Charter Schools. Analyzed qualitative and quantitative data. Submitted a final seventy-page report. SEPT 2005-AUGUST 2008 Argosy University/Native Hawaiian Charter Schools Hawaii PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR Principal investigator for first program evaluation of 12 Native Hawaiian Charter Schools in Hawaii. Built community-research partnerships, wrote literature review, wrote surveys, conducted quantitative and qualitative analysis. Ran focus groups and community-participatory action research. Culminated in doctoral dissertation. Received federal SAMHSA grant funding. Created a new scale and published. 1999-2003 The (Re)Generation Project RESEARCHER/WRITER/EDITOR Collected over 600 stories, poetry and artwork from recent college graduates. Conducted literature reviews, edited final submissions, and co-wrote chapter introductions focused on developmental issues. As sole employee, tasks include community organizing, teaching and career counseling on-island for sixty youth aged 16-30. Program includes restarting island youth group, work placements, running courses (chanting, local massage, computers) and cultural revitalization. Started a native woodworking and canoe-making program. In Rarotonga, started community adult education program. Put together 35 community education courses and a tertiary plan for all outer islands. Worked at Boston Medical Center in an inpatient psychiatric facility and in behavioral medicine on a primary care team.
