• To build relationships with the
Bolivian military for further
expeditions.
Land locked country in South America bordering Chile, Paraguay, Brazil Argentina and Peru. Diverse country with the Andes in the West and the East lowland situated in the Amazon basin. Bolivia is very warm in the lowlands however temperature decreases as altitude increases and the West of Bolivia is very high. La Paz itself is at 3800m above sea level. This is the team I went with to Bolivia. We are acclimatizing in and around La Paz at this point. Adjusting to the altitude takes time and everything is done slower. The team consisted of Students from East Midlands Universities and Major from the British Army and a Leuitenant from the Bolivian Army. In terms of experience four of the 9 students had previous experience at altitudes of 4000m + but the rest of us had only completed a winter mountaineering qualification in Scotland earlier in the year.
