10. Links back to Degree Studies
Skills gained from certain modules in 1st and 2nd year of my BSc
Agriculture Degree have helped me during my placement including;
Introductory Plant Pathology – Gave me a basic understanding of the
way in which plant diseases infect plants and spread. This helped me
understand how diseases such as Rusts and Septoria spread
differently which has been useful when assessing crops for disease.
Crop Management Challenge – Made me aware of problematic cereal
diseases and how to protect them using fungicides. I began to learn
from this some of the BASF product portfolio.
Applied Crop Science – I learnt about the different growing habits of
various crop families which has helped me to identify weeds in
herbicide trials. Also, why plants in similar families are more difficult to
control (Charlock in OSR).

Fungicide Re-registration trial on Strawberries – Research Project
Eduardo a Development Agronomist carrying out the trial
I will accompany him for marking out, spraying, assessing, harvesting
and measuring yield.
The product is for the control of Botrytis Cinerea
Oversprays
It is likely that some trials will require oversprays to control diseases or
weeds in severe situations. As ADA’s it will be our job to spray these
trials.
