Blogs originated in the late 1990s from the terms "web log" and "weblogging" which referred to regularly updated websites or online journals where posts are arranged in reverse chronological order. Early blogs were typically personal journals where authors posted commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video, but now blogs cover almost every topic and industry. Modern blog software makes it easy for anyone to set up and maintain a blog, with features like publishing via RSS feeds and allowing public commenting on posts.
