1. The document discusses the book of 1 John 5:11-15 and explains that these verses testify that God has given believers eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ.
2. It emphasizes that whoever has the Son has eternal life, while those who do not have the Son do not have eternal life.
3. John wrote these things so that believers may know with confidence and assurance that they have eternal life through faith in Jesus and may continue to believe in Him.
Do we still believe in the power of prayer today? Listening to some pray would lead me to believe we serve a helpless God! "God if you can...." There is power in prayer!
Belief is much harder than most suppose. During Jesus’ life, even his brothers did not believe in Him. In this lesson you’ll learn four reasons that many did not believe in Jesus then, and consider how these are the same today.
The words translated “trust” in the Bible literally mean “a bold, confident, sure security or action based on that security.” Trust is not exactly the same as faith, which is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). Rather, trusting is what we do because of the faith we have been given. Trusting is believing in the promises of God in all circumstances, even in those where the evidence seems to be to the contrary. Hebrews 11 talks about faith, which is accepting and believing the truth that God reveals about Himself, supremely in the person of His Son, the Lord Jesus the Christ.
The healing of the official’s son teaches vital lessons about what it means to seek Jesus and to believe in Jesus. It also reminds us of how great Jesus is, reminding us that our faith must be in Him because of who He is, the Christ, the Son of God.
Eternal Life Planted by Streams 120524 Bangsar LC.pptxJohn Cheah, CAMS
Today in BLC I shared from the scripture 1 John 5:9-15 where we looked at the author assuring us that when we receive Christ in our lives, we received eternal life. And if eternal life already started for us, we can live life with confidence doing the will of God. The author also assured us that when we pray according to His will, He hears us and will answer.
How do we know His Will? We then went to Psalm 1 the Psalm for today. We learnt to delight in the law of the Lord and be planted as a tree by streams of living water.
Let us do these things as a family together, and continue on serving Him with assurance.
We closed with the song Be it into me according to your Word.

Knowing our identity in Christ: as co heirs, we can confidently share our lives, tell our story, His story and change our world, and who knows, we may even change THE world!
John concludes his letter by reminding us of the things that we know because we believe and have eternal life: 1) that our Father hears our prayers; 2) that we can overcome sin; and, 3) that we know the true God.
Based on the Alpha course. Faith is acting on what we believe is true and will happen. Three factors enable us to have faith, the promises of God in the Bible, the reputation of God in the past and the testimony of others and personal experience. Small steps of trust lead to bigger steps.
The "Learning and Living the God-centered life" had a retreat in which the theme was The Gospel. Here is our Friday night teaching was specifically designed to exhort each of us to stay steadfast in Christ!
It’s not about the quantity of what you have, but the quality of your existence. A life of hope, peace, love and contentment. This is a life where His love is manifested and experienced every day that it overflows with your every action. You were created to experience Jesus in your life!

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
2. Introduction
●
Serious question: If you died tonight would
you go to heaven?
●
Do you know your eternal destiny?
●
Many are not sure because of the emphasis on
apsotasy.
●
Apostasy (falling away and being lost) is
possible. Many are convinced that it is
probable.
3. The song: Blessed Assurance
●
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine
●
O what a foretaste of glory divine
●
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
●
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
●
We sing the words – but do we really believe
them to apply to us?
4. Our text – 1 John 5:11-15
●
11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us
eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the
Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does
not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who
believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may
know that you have eternal life, and that you may
continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. 14
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we
ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if
we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know
that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
5. 1 John 5:11
●
Verse 11 And this is the testimony: that God
has given us eternal life, and this life is in
His Son.
●
God gave His Son, Jesus Christ – John 3:16
●
Eternal life is only in Christ – Acts 4:12
●
Are you in Christ?
●
Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as were
baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
6. 1 John 5:11
●
Verse 11 And this is the testimony: that God
has given us eternal life, and this life is in
His Son.
●
Have you been baptized into Christ?
●
If yes, they you have the eternal life of verse
11.
●
Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many
of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were
baptized into His death?
7. 1 John 5:12
●
Verse 12 He who has the Son has life; he
who does not have the Son of God does not
have life.
●
This is not complicated
●
If you have the Son – you have eternal life
●
If you do not have the Son – you do not have
eternal life
8. 1 John 5:13
●
Verse 13 These things I have written to you who
believe in the name of the Son of God, that you
may know that you have eternal life, and that you
may continue to believe in the name of the Son of
God.
●
This is why John wrote this letter
●
You can know if you believe or not
●
You can know if you were baptized into Christ
●
You can know if you have eternal life
9. John 20:30-31
●
John 20:30-31 30 And truly Jesus did many other
signs in the presence of His disciples, which are
not written in this book; 31 but these are written
that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God, and that believing you may have life in
His name.
●
This is why John wrote the gospel of John
●
You can believe that Jesus is the Son of God
10. 1 John 5:14
●
Verse 14 Now this is the confidence that we
have in Him, that if we ask anything
according to His will, He hears us.
●
Confidence = boldness, assurance, feeling of
being sure
●
Here is the “Blessed Assurance” we sing
about
●
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to
the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy
and find grace to help in time of need.
11. 1 John 5:15
●
Verse 15 And if we know that He hears us,
whatever we ask, we know that we have the
petitions that we have asked of Him.
●
We know (have assurance) we are in Christ
●
We know God hears our prayers – We are His
children and he listens to us
●
1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are on
the righteous, And His ears are open to their
prayers; But the face of the Lord is against
those who do evil."
12. 1 John 5:15
●
Verse 15 And if we know that He hears us,
whatever we ask, we know that we have the
petitions that we have asked of Him.
●
We know we are in Christ
●
We know we have eternal life
●
We know that God hears our prayers
●
We also know that He answers our prayers
14. Blessed Assurance
●
We must believe, live and act like we know who
we are, where we are going, and that God
hears and answers our prayers.
●
This is BLESSED ASSURANCE.
●
Do you have the assurance to
answer the question:
If you died tonight
would you go to heaven?
