PROCEDURE FOR EYELID LIFT SURGERY
STEP 1: Cosmetic eyelid surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, and typically lasts from 45 minutes to 2
hours. Depending on the extent of the eyelid surgery, patient will be given general anesthesia or local anesthesia
with IV sedation.
• STEP 2: Most trained, board certified cosmetic surgeons use advanced techniques that eliminate the need to
bandage the eyes after surgery, although you may be given an eye lubricant that somewhat blurs your vision at
first.
STEP 3: During the first 1 to 2 weeks after eyelid surgery, patients commonly have some visible bruising and

 Gently clean your eyelids and use prescribed eye drops or
ointments.
 Avoid straining, heavy lifting and swimming for a week.
 Avoid smoking.
 Avoid rubbing your eyes.
 Apply cool compresses to reduce swelling.
 Sleep with your head raised high.
 Wear darkly tinted sunglasses to protect the skin of your
eyelids from sun and wind.
