These are the slides for the presentation I ran back in February. I'm writing up the parts of the presentation on my blog at http://www.nicholasfernando.com
2. In this session Using Paper.li to create an online newspaper for your modules Can we use wordscapes (with wordle or other) to summarise or highlight module content Using about.me to provide a loosely coupled e-portfolio for students Adaptive release in Blackboard – what can I do with it?
4. What is Paper.li? Paper.li is a newspaper generated from the links shared (and tweets) in a twitter feed which could be: Your own + those you follow A hashtag (twitters term for a meta tag) A list
5. How it could be used As an aggregated interest resource for a group, module or a programme
6. How it could be used Add supplementary or additional content for activities, workshops, modules and independent learning
7. The other bits You don’t need to actively tweet to create a paper, just follow relevant tweeters You can refine what/whose tweets are contributed to the paper by: Setting up lists Using twitter queries Doesn’t work with private accounts or tweets
8. Lets Discuss Can Wordscapes be used to summarise/highlight content
9. Wordle Wordle (Wordle.net) generates infographics from textual content it is provided As pasted text From a URL From a Delicious social bookmarking user Generates the graphic based on frequency and removal of stop words
13. So… Wordle is probably a bit simplistic in terms of general operation We could ‘game’ Wordle to generate infographics that can better act as advance organisers Alternatively we could do the same with PowerPoint or other suitable tool We could just provide only a list of keywords or tags for the content.
16. What is About.me and how could we utilise it A personal splash page with a dashboard Use to consolidate the different web tools we use and have a single point of identity
17. We could then enable students to take a more open approach to their portfolio construction and pdp activities should they wish It’s outward facing from the get go with privacy control being managed and owned by themselves Not a competitor or a replacement for a dedicated e-portfolio system. A different route to a shared goal: demonstrate competence and build identity
