ACHIEVEMENT EXAMPLES
Safety
During a major storm event I was called to a job during heavy rain and wind on the
Wollongong escarpment. I arrived on site to find 11kv wires on the ground from the
wind. The police were directing pedestrians around the site to keep the public safe.
The exclusion zone was too close however to I talked to the police and asked them
to move the zone back for more safety. I then worked with the crew to make the
wires safe for restringing.
Problem solving
I arrived at a customer’s home that had a problem with partial supply. I tested and
realised that one phase was down. I traced that back to a blown distribution pole
substation fuse. I replaced the fuse, reenergized and then retested the customer’s
premises. The fault was resolved and customer supply fully restored.
Teamwork
During a storm my crew received a large scale job to change a pole and restring.
Between the crews we split up according to capability and stock available on the
trucks. We used CB radios and mobiles to communicate to restore power in a safe
and timely manner.
Customer
I was working as a Field Officer to disconnect a customer for nonpayment. As I got
out of the car I realized the customer was very angry and wanted me to leave. I
spoke to the customer calmly and allowed them to call their retailer and make an
arrangement for payment so I did not have to disconnect. The customer was very
thankful.
Leadership
Along with Surf Lifesaving throughout my youth I participated in a range of sports at
both local and national levels. My first experience leading a team was during my
junior years as Captain of a local soccer team, at the age of 16 I transitioned from
soccer to rugby union again securing a Captain position within the team. These roles
enabled me to develop coaching and mentoring skills as I led my team members to
consecutive grand finals. My leadership was noted later when I was selected by
educators at my high school to lead the rugby league team.
Throughout career with Endeavour Energy I supported other apprentices to develop
skills needed to complete projects we were working on. During my time at
McDonalds I was a Crew Trainer which involved assigning daily jobs to staff, ensuring
correct procedures and practices were implemented during services and inducting
new team members into the workplace.
