Dre is staying at home to care for baby Devonte while wearing an apron. He attempts to make blueberry pancakes for the family but they come out poorly cooked. Pops questions Dre's masculinity for wearing an apron and caring for the baby. Bo offers to take Devonte so Dre can shower. Dre insists he has things under control as the stay at home dad. Bo takes the other kids to school, leaving Dre home with Devonte, whose diaper needs changing.

INT.JOHNSON KITCHEN- DAY (DAY 1)
EXTREME CLOSE UP: Baby Devonte’s face smiling, gargling
and laughing to himself (as happy babies do). His chubby
cheeks are perched on an adult’s shoulders. The adult is
wearing a frilly blue and white checkered apron.
DRE(V.O)
Ahh... The joys of fatherhood. The
joys of... being a 21st Century
man. You see that face, that is the
face of the future. The face of a
baby being cradled by his stay at
home dad. Temporary stay at home
Dad. No room for any dead beat
examples of manhood.Not in this
future!
ZOOMS OUT TO : Dre’s back. Devonte is still gargling and
giggling to himself. Dre has a spatula in his hand. And a
mixing bowl rests on the counter beside him. Dianne and
Jack walk past Dre and Devonte, lightly poking Devonte’s
face. Dre turns around. Good life soundtrack comes to an
abrupt stop. Dre looks absolutely disheveled in sweats,
flip flops and an apron covered in pancake batter and bags
under his eyes.
DRE (CONT’D)
Morning my two other beautiful
children. I hope you like blue
berry pancakes because that’s
what’s for breakfast.
Where?
DIANE
JACK (HALF
WHISPERING)
He means those lumps of um..

Enter Pops, with a newspaper.
POPS
Boy, I would say the say the same
to you wearing that apron cradling
your baby like that.
Diane and Jack poke the pancakes with their fingers,
raw batter oozes out and the two share a face of
disgust and disapproval as they back away and decide to
pour orange juice into their cups instead and sit at
the table.
DRE
POPS you're just scared to admit it.
I’m doing a good job of being Dad
and you can’t handle it.
Enter BO, RUBY and JR. Jr heads straight towards the raw
pancakes and stacks them onto his plate. Bo has a breast
pump in hand and her Doctor Scrubs on.
RUBY
That’s right baby!You my boy! You
go on and be a father to your kids.
We already know that Earl could
never handle anything that’s hot.
POPS
That’s right! I could never handle
a hot mess and that goes for the
both of y’all. Dre you looked in
the mirror lately?
Baby Devonte smiles.
DRE (V.O)
And that’s when I knew that being a
stay at home husband and father was
too futuristic for someone as old
school as Pops. Some people just
can’t appreciate the good life.

Dre, you want me to feed Devonte
before I go to work? I have a few
minutes.
RUBY
If you had a few more minutes that
baby wouldn’t have my Dre up at odd
hours looking like a panda
abandoned at the circus

DRE
Abandoned what?
RUBY
That is where they are from right?
The only panda I’ve ever seen is
the one I use as an emoji.
Bo looks over at the kitchen table and reacts disgustedly
to Jr’s eating. She grabs a 10 dollar bill and a granola
bar and hands them to Diane and Jr mouthing “breakfast is
on me”. Bo goes back to the kitchen counter, pushes the
tray of pancakes away from her.
BO
Dre, you should give him to me, so
you can get cleaned up.
DRE
Oh no you don’t! I got this. I can
live the stay at home good life all
day. EErry day! I got this.
The twins play rock, paper scissors deciding who gets
the granola bar and who gets the 10 dollars.
You
sure?
BO JR
Yeah, mom he’s sure. He’s got these
pancakes down!
Diane and Jack look disgustedly at Jr as he guzzles down
his stacked pancakes.

4. DRE
See! Even my least favorite child
is rooting for me.
JR
Imma let that slide cuz these are
so good.
Jack and Diane scoot their chairs further away from
JR. POPS
(mumbling to himself)
I wish he’d let that apron slide. ‘
fact I wish he’d just slide on into
the shower too.

Baby Devonte chuckles.
BO
Suit yourself. Come on babies, I’ll
drop you to school.
POPS
That’s right, listen to the lady
and suit yourself up.
BO
Come on kids. Bye Pops. Ruby.Bye
bye baby D.
Momma loves you. Yes she does.
Bo grabs her purse and keys, kisses both Dre and Devonte
and ushers the kids out the house.
DRE (V.O)
Now that’s the kind of future love
I’m talking about. That is the
smell of possibility, the scent of
victory in the-- Oh no, that ain’t
victory, that’s definitely the smell
of a diaper change. Nothing a 21st
century man can’t handle.
