Biology is the study of life. It has a long history dating back to ancient times. Biology studies living things at different levels of organization from cells to ecosystems. There are many branches of biology including cell biology, genetics, ecology and evolution. Key theories in biology include the theory of heredity which explains how traits are passed from parents to offspring and the theory of evolution which describes how species change over time through natural selection.
