1. Jennifer Long – Biography 2015
Art has been a lifetime pursuit for Brisbane visual artist Jennifer Long. She is drawn
to many, varied sources in both the real and imagined world and her images of
landscape, people, objects and architecture reflect this disparity. Working in a range
of media - oil painting, printmaking, drawing, collage and ricepaper bowls has
enabled her to explore a range of mark marking to express these disparate ideas.
Imagery is often symbolic and surreal and invites the viewer to speculate on its
origins. Reference sources are gleaned from connections between places and
objects, past and present, real and imagined.
Jennifer studied Fine Art in a BArts degree at the University of Queensland and
undertook a Diploma of Art in 76/77 at the Queensland College of Art. Betty
Churcher was an early mentor at QIT and she undertook life drawing and painting
workshops with Roy Churcher, Mervyn Moriarty and Irene Amos. She studied
painting and life drawing with David Paulson at Queensland College of Art and the
Brisbane Institute of Art. Since 2010 she has done painting, print and lithography
workshops with Elizabeth Cummings, Judy Watson, Peter Lancaster, Claudia
Husband and Christopher Hagan and pursued etching at the Brisbane Institute of Art
with Wim de Voss, Carolyn McKenzie Craig and in 2015 with Gwenn Tasker.
