3. What is Big Data?
Big data is a broad term for data sets so large or complex that typical
database tools cannot capture, store, manage and analyze the data.
4. Structured vs. Unstructured Data
Structured: Data that resides in a fixed field within a record or file. Ex:
relational databases and spreadsheets
Client relationship management systems (CRM)
Unstructured: Data that does not reside in a traditional row-column
database. Ex: email messages, videos, photos, audio files, webpages, GPS,
mobile, etc.
Note: Experts estimate that 80-90% of the data in any organization is
unstructured.

10. Big Data is not about the size of the data, It’s about the Value within
the data.
11. Laurie Miles, head of analytics for big data specialist SAS, says:
"The term big data has been around for decades, and we've been
doing analytics all this time. It's not big, it's just bigger."
It's the velocity, variety and volume of data that has merited the new
term – Big Data.
