belongs to the so called Synoptic
Gospels with a common structure

 Date: In its primitive
form towards the

the year 80, probably
by a disciple.

 the greatest number
of Jewish Christianity

 The more immediate recipients: Jewish Christianity.
Therefore:
 No explanation of the Jewish customs (that their readers knew)
 No translation of Hebrew vocabulary
 Several references to the Old Testament and the Mosaic Law.
 Written in Aramaic (used by the Jews who lived in Palestine)

 Jesus is the Messias, foretold by the prophets
 Matthew doesn’t just want to tell a story but to demonstrate
that Jesus is the Kyrios
 He has inaugurate a Messianic kingdom in the
Church
 Chirstology is the base for Ecclesiology
 Crist asks us for a personal, essential and real continuity of
Him
 Christ’s followers have to make the Kingdom of heaven on
earth.
 The Gospel will be announced to all nations for
their salvation
 Those who believe, even if they are pagans, will receive the
kingdom of God.
 Jews who didn’t accept Jesus, will be excluded from the
Kingdom of God.
