Effective Diversity Marketing in Retail: A Look at MEXX in 2006Adrian Parker
In 2001, the international fashion brand MEXX was introduced in the U.S. After 5 years of riding the topsy turvy retail waves, the U.S. division employed aggressive diversity marketing tactics in hopes of reviving the brand and reaching under-served consumers.
We knew we needed to take a deep dive into the operation we were becoming and begin to identify what it was that was making us, well, us. What kind of agency do we want to be? How is that different from everybody else? What does the ATAK “style” look like? How were we representing our community? And oh yeah, what does “ATAK” really mean and how the heck do you pronounce it?
…and so we made the ATAK Interactive Brand Book. It’s the ultimate guide to who we are, what we believe, and what we are capable of doing.

Crew Clothing is a British brand known for its casual and coastal-inspired clothing, but they do not specialize in jeans. However, there are numerous brands around the world that offer a wide range of jeans. Here are some popular jeans brands known globally:
2. Introducing a new denim concept: Bethnals. We are a London
born and bred Unisex denim brand whose mission is to provide
the perfect fit for everyone, regardless of their gender.
Never before has there been more desire in the industry to go
back to basics - and this is what Bethnals is all about - simple,
fuss free denim that speaks volumes without the need to be
over-styled. Taking the classic heritage of a lifelong staple and
putting a modern London inspired stamp on it, we are a true
reflection of the faithful London Uniform.
OUR ETHOS
3. After working in the fashion industry for 15 years,
eventually specialising in the world of denim, it
reached the point where I was ready to step away
from high-speed production and focus on high
quality, beautiful denim with a message.
The initial idea for Bethnals came from the fact that
I was worn out by fashion’s everchanging landscape
– so personally I wanted to simplify both my buying
patterns as well as my wardrobe.
At Bethnals we focus on considered, trend-less
pieces which will last through every fad – without
having to break the bank.
As for style, I am typically a Tomboy and more
often than not found wearing my boyfriend’s jeans
and tees. The unisex ideals of Bethnals stem from
here really – why isn’t this more acceptable? Men
wear tiny skinny jeans they get from the women’s
section, and it seems unfair that you have to have a
boyfriend to find the perfect boyfriend fit. So here
we are – focusing on style, fit and function rather
than your gender.

14. OUR PRODUCT
AUTUMN WINTER 2016 COLLECTION
Inspired by the 1960’s progression of the denim scene growing
out of London’s desire to break clothing tradition.
Clean denim pleat front kecks, Indigo knitted raglan crew neck tees, white line
selvedge bib and brace worker dungarees and shearling lined chore coats.
Paired with our classic re-cutsof best selling styles
and soft open twill boxy jackets.
15. At Bethnals HQ we talk a lot about our ‘London Uniform’. But what is
that? Considering we are talking about London – such a unique, diverse,
individual and creative city – we cannot tell you what your uniform is.
However, Bethnals would love to be a part of it, and we aim to design
staple pieces that will roll with everything in a Londoner’s wardrobe.
To prove this ethos, we launched the #mylondonuniform campaign,
and here are some of our favourite images.

WGSN
“Living amongst London’s melting pot of
youth sub-cultures and eccentric styling,
Melissa quickly picked up on the number of
youths blurring the boundaries between men
and women’s denim and quickly set about
developing the perfect fit for both in one jean.
The result is a selection of skinny and boyfriend
shapes cut to suit both the male and female
silhouette with the essence of London spun
into every thread.”
