Bertha Adler was born in Poland in 1928 and attended local elementary school, where she had Catholic friends while speaking Hebrew and Yiddish. In the 1940s, she went into hiding and pretended to be Catholic to avoid detection. However, in 1944 she was discovered by the Gestapo and sent to Auschwitz, where she was gassed just two days later.
