- In the 1980s, the BBC explored the world of computing in The Computer Literacy Project. They commissioned a home computer (the BBC Micro) and taught viewers how to program 14 TV series over 10 years The Computer Literacy Project chronicled a decade of information technology and was a milestone in the history of computing in Britain, helping to inspire a generation of coders.

- In 2018, the BBC invited UK museums, galleries and libraries to become Civilisations Festival Partners - hosting events to spark debate, broaden understanding and share ideas about what the term ‘civilisation’ means for their communities. Events ranged from debates and speeches to performances and workshops - all based around items in their collections. The Festival coincided with the spring launch a landmark nine-part Civilisations series. Inspired by Kenneth Clark’s BBC series Civilisation from 1969, this bold new series explored the role that art and the creative imagination have played in the forging of humanity itself. Over 800 pieces of BBC television and radio archive were made available to partner organisations and Civilisations Festival Partners were able to use this material at their events for free. Digital technology, newly developed by the BBC was on offer to Civilisations Festival.

- Estimated 9m people in Europe with dementia Dementia effects memory, short-term or ‘working’ memory. later stages of dementia, the memory can be wiped every 10 seconds, yet memories from earlier years (typically ages 14-40) often remain intact - ‘reminiscence bump’ Triggering intact memories stimulating conversations about them improve the relationship between people with dementia and their families and carers, leads to improvements in the level of care they receive and their quality of life.
- we were approached by researcher from University Of Dundee. had spent years researching technology & dementia. BBC’s archives could be put to good use in this area, designed and built an online reminiscence archive, using material from our archives. research had found that generic material was more effective than personal material for reminiscence work and more scaleable

- wanted to see how RemArc worked in practice, so, supported by the Alzheimer’s Society charity, spent time with 53 people with dementia, letting them try out RemArc, listening to their ideas, observing their responses, and noting down their ideas and suggestions. This was a hugely valuable and informative process lots of good ideas emerged many changes were made, leading to the current version
