Daily Jobs and Work Experience: Listed below are few jobs I am performing on daily basis.
­ HA Cluster for Scalable Application: Building and Maintaining a Highly Available application in
cloud which includes 50+ servers serving distributed applications. All servers are working in a
High availability mode so that even if one fails, other picks up. Failover is implemented in
Loadbalancer level using Haproxy/Nginx/ELB. At service level, the failover tools such as
Keepalived/Custom Shell scripts can monitor the applications/services and make decision on
switching to a replicated environment. Servers are scalable and are using Api from provider. A
proactive monitoring with Nagios will monitor the parameters such as CPU load, Memory Usage,
Queue Length and call the provider API as needed to scale up servers. Data Storage clustering
is setup for dynamic applications such as wordpress so that the application writes to a single
disk. It uses DRBD for storage clustering and NFS for client mount. Ruby environment is setup in
the server using rvm, ruby, rails and Passenger/Nginx. Varnish is used infront of webserver
(Nginx) for caching and Haproxy Loadbalancer is the frontend. My responsibility includes setting
up and continuously managing the complete infrastructure, Maintaining Configuration
Management tools, Automating the DevOps jobs, Database Administration and disaster
recovery, Writing custom scripts such as Nagios Plugins, APIs to be used by Dev Team,
automation scripts etc. The infrastructure would also need modification, as some better
tools/technologies replace the current ones or if provider come up with a new SAAS model etc.
­ Scripting Expertise (Nagios Configuration Generator): ­ Nagios monitoring server will
monitor 1000+ servers which are openvpn clients to 3 OpenVPN servers. The Nagios server
check openvpn logs in 3 servers to get list of worksttaions to be monitored. These work stations
belongs to different clients (a client can have multiple workstations) and Nagios script can
determine which client a station belongs to using the station name. Script can create and group
the hosts and services based on the client they are belonging to. When ran, script will ask for the

3. action you need to perform which will include – Erase the existing list and generate full config
from OpenVPN logs, Add/Delete a new client, Add/Delete a workstation, Modify an existing
workstation, Enable Nagios notifications at client leve (clients get notification if one of their
stations goes down), create/update contact groups.
­ Network and Infrastructure: ­ Maintaining and Managing Protocols, Gateways, Switches, VPN,
Loadbalancers etc. This includes Setting up endian, ipcop, pfsense, sonicwall, cyberom,
OpenVPN, Site to site VPNs, Switches, Hubs etc. It also includes helping Dev team with
Operations which includes setting up and deploying server environments, Configuration and
Build automation, Monitoring applications, DB management etc. Office Asset Management and
helping Dev team on demand basis.
